    I heard Jeff nerfed melee combat after the first Avernum remake. Before you could have up to 95% hit chance, and dual wield decent weapons. Now it's 90% and the offhand weapons are mostly shitty. It's too bad, because Archery was already shit from the start, so now there's no point to anything...
