Star Control: Origins - Star Control reboot from Stardock

Before it was much more...I dunno, muddled? When the game first came out, we found players literally going and spending several minutes on planets collecting silicon (sand). Needless to say, that's pretty boring. We thought (wrongly) that people would quickly realize that planets filled with...

Star Control: Origins - Star Control reboot from Stardock

Most things won't slow you down but a big enough tree will certainly do it. I've already asked that even that be toned down. The planet stuff is an interesting conundrum. When I took over the project last year, the planet mini game was definitely the hardest thing to wrap my head around...

Star Control: Origins - Star Control reboot from Stardock

When I saw that ZP had reviewed it I get that anxiety feeling...you know the feeling right? But I can't remember the last game he liked so that was quite a nice surprise. Right now, most of the focus is on what will end up being called "earth rising" (the marketing people at Stardock have NO...

Star Control: Origins - Star Control reboot from Stardock

Regarding what Stardock acquired: https://www.trademarkia.com/star-control-75095591.html So yes, Stardock wanted to acquire, did acquire and now owns the Star Control trademark. This trademark has nothing to do with the aliens or lore or ships from SC2 (which I think has been discussed here...

Star Control: Origins - Star Control reboot from Stardock

Hey guys! So latest news: Dan Nicholson has joined the Star Control: Origins effort bringing all his music with him (between he and Riku, the new Star Control will have virtually all the old music as well as remastered versions available in game).

BTW, I'm still lurking. I've been on the planet creation stuff like crazy. So as mentioned, you can create your own unique planet. But there are bunch of planet classes as well. This is just up to S (sorry, lame screenshot). I suspect players will end up creating some interesting stuff.

    Galactic Civilizations III

When I took over the design of GalCiv III last year, I went through all the feedback from RPGCodex, QT3, our own forums, OO and other sites and just played and played. I designed GalCiv II but during GalCiv III was working on Offworld Trading Company and Ashes of the Singularity. The base...

KickStarter Free Stars: Children of Infinity - upcoming Star Control 2 sequel from Fred Ford's Pistol Shrimp Games - Kickstarter Live

You know, for all the drama I am part of in the industry, I feel like I should get paid or something. I take it you didn't know Stardock offered to transfer the Star Control IP to Paul and Fred in 2013 at our cost in the hopes that they'd make a new game. They declined.

KickStarter Free Stars: Children of Infinity - upcoming Star Control 2 sequel from Fred Ford's Pistol Shrimp Games - Kickstarter Live

GOG has agreed to remove SC 1/2/3 because they don't want to be in the middle of a legal dispute over a 25-year old DOS game. They keep making all these claims but have yet to provide us with any documentation to support it. If they had a document or agreement that indicates that the sales...

KickStarter Free Stars: Children of Infinity - upcoming Star Control 2 sequel from Fred Ford's Pistol Shrimp Games - Kickstarter Live

What makes RPGCodex special, as many of you already know is that many of the people here have been around the gaming world for a very long time. So at a certain point, I need to be able to rely on you guys to know the intent. I don't think there's a "bad guy" here. Speaking only for myself, I...

KickStarter Free Stars: Children of Infinity - upcoming Star Control 2 sequel from Fred Ford's Pistol Shrimp Games - Kickstarter Live

Right now, your guess is as good as mine. Some of you read this before we did. Until the lawyers talk, we really don't know what, precisely, is their issue. I can speculate that their issue is related to what you described in 59 but I really don't know. I don't know if I'd describe their...

That's not it at all. It's more a release. As in, any and all rights Stardock has are transferred to you and any and all restrictions on that IP are removed. Now, of course, they don't have to sign anything. They can leave the legality murky if they want. Most people here are reasonably savvy...

KickStarter Free Stars: Children of Infinity - upcoming Star Control 2 sequel from Fred Ford's Pistol Shrimp Games - Kickstarter Live

(brad from Stardock here) Why are you guys yelling at Stardock? Stardock has no interest to use the old IP, has stated numerous times that it has no intention to use the IP without Paul and Fred's involvement. *I* am the one who posted about Ghosts first on the UQM forums. Stardock has been...

I do like redtape. Internally, I've renamed it to that.
