    Let Us Play SMAC PBEM

I am forced to wait before uploading Part 16, because some annoying person made a song sampling the SMAC menu music; and they Content-ID'd my video of playing SMAC, because it contains the SMAC menu music. Ah, I just started a new one - but I will be sure to let you know when I start another...

Rat Diplomacy 2: Fish Cannot Carry Guns

I don't know if I can just join in this game right off the bat - someone just dragged me into this :P I'll sit this one out and watch you play.

    Let Us Play SMAC PBEM

In my experience a lot of early games were played 'hot' (swapping back and forth quickly) but the later game usually gets down to 1 a day (or even less). The turn times go up after the early game so it becomes harder to just sit in anticipation. The 1-a-day does make it all more tense, because...

    Let Us Play SMAC PBEM

Thank you very much, TNO ! I can very much recommend PBEM - the AI (even with the patches) has no real comparison to humans. With PBEM you can also play against people who like role-playing, so you're not even limited to early aggression cut-throat tactics. As to your questions-- 1) SMAX and...

4X The Unsurpassed Brian Reynolds' Alpha Centauri thread

I was just joking because it's been suggested by quite a few people that Miriam's tech quote on the Psi-gate means she encouraged all her followers to commit mass suicide. I.e., promise them heaven, send them through a bad materoport.

4X The Unsurpassed Brian Reynolds' Alpha Centauri thread

Didn't the believers all "transcend" by going through a Psi Gate? That lead to """eden""".

4X The Unsurpassed Brian Reynolds' Alpha Centauri thread

The problem with economic victory is that you wait a long time, have a lot of money, press the button, wait 20 turns... instant victory. The range of aggressive actions is deeper than that of diplomatic and far deeper than that of economic, which makes this victory a bit drab.

Stellaris - Paradox new sci-fi grand strategy game

I tried playing again with some mods that made solar systems extremely large, increased weapons ranges, and rebalanced fights. That made for some pretty sci-fi battle looks as lasers and missiles flew across half a solar system, with little mass driver specks shooting about. I took over and...

Stellaris - Paradox new sci-fi grand strategy game

Perhaps ranting a bit too much now, but what bothers me most is that Alpha Centauri did not reinvent the wheel - it takes so much from The Jesus Incident, A Fire Upon the Deep, and other works. Reynolds clearly knows his stuff but even a more casual author could cobble together a fake quote by...

Stellaris - Paradox new sci-fi grand strategy game

I was quite interested in the game but after playing it for a while I started wondering if I was actually playing Cookie Clicker. Wait for resources - do thing to get more resources - wait for more resources - do thing to get enormous resources - wait for gigantic resources - do thing... When I...
