  1. KickStarter The Emperor's Own - story-driven adventure game with RPG elements set in alt 19th century Russia

Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/548689230/the-emperors-own https://theemperorsown.com They got a free demo on steam. No RGP elements yet but they're promising to add them, the combat is really raw, but the story looks legit. Some of the best writing I've seen in a game...
  2. Why do people like Disco Elysium's writing so much?

Hey, everyone, thanks for the responses! I'm actually surprised that so many people agreed with me, because for a bit there I was starting to wonder whether or not I was crazy for not liking a game that seemed tailor made to my tastes and that everyone else seemed to think was the best thing...
  3. Why do people like Disco Elysium's writing so much?

I have never played a game where there was so much of a disconnect between my perception and the general opinion. It won a bunch of awards for its story, people whose opinion I respect praise it highly, but IMO the writing in it is shit. Not mediocre, not sup-bar, but absolute shit. I can't see...
  4. What can change the nature of a man?

Besides regret? A lead pipe to the head will usually do it. :)
  5. Baldur's Gate Baldur's Gate 2 is vastly overrated

I'd say that BG2 is the better game, but I enjoyed BG1 more because it was just so revolutionary. It was a true "Holy shit, this is amazing!" experience. The gap between BG2 and BG1 wasn't nearly as big as the gap between BG1 and everything that came before it.
  6. Incline Quests which you would like to see in RPGs?

Man, that game is near the top of my list, but where am I gonna find the 100+ hours I need to play it?? :) I may be one of the few people who wishes that games weren't as massive as they are nowadays.
  7. "Dumb" dialogue options, yay or nay?

Does anybody really play games all the way through picking the dumb options? It seems like something you can get a kick out of for a bit, but then restart and play with your real character.
  8. Incline Quests which you would like to see in RPGs?

I like the more everyday human elements. Like hanging out and drinking with the boys in The Witcher 3. Not everything has to be about accomplishing some massive task or whathave you.
  9. Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War - Activision goes... based?

It's still going to be the exact same fucking game, just with a slightly different wrapper.
  10. Baldur's Gate Baldur's Gate 2 is vastly overrated

Weren't BG1 and 2 the games that saved CRPGs from extinction? That showed that games like that could still be viable and profitable? To me, they're some of the most amazing games I've ever played, and not overrated in the slightest. I'd have to wait until Mass Effect to have the same kind of...
  11. What game are you wasting time on?

Playing Civilization 4 scenarios on Diety. Nothing but frustration and aggravation for the most part, but I still keep clicking that End Turn button...
  12. World of Darkness Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 from Hardsuit Labs

This sounds like cold hard business to me. They're running out of money, the writing is probably already done, so they fired the lead writer. Sucks for Brian, but we don't know how bad things are over there. It could be the choice between firing some people now, or the studio going bankrupt and...
  13. Baldur's Gate Baldur's Gate 3 Pre-Release Thread [EARLY ACCESS RELEASED, GO TO NEW THREAD]

I would bet that BG3 will be essentially another Divinity set in the Forgotten Realms. Which is not a bad thing IMO.
