The big 4X thread (also unofficial patches + mods, also questions about these)

I second the dominions 3 and Alpha Centauri recs I still play them a lot despite the shitty ai but then again strategy game ais suck in general anyways. I'm having a lot of fun with distant worlds so far lately as well. Moo3 was different from the rest of the series but with mods it's not...

    Endless Space

I agree after fooling around with a "demo" for a bit. Might be a fun multiplayer game but for now I'll stick to the classics and wait to see if it improves. Didn't like the weapon/armor rock paper scissors thing in Galactic Civ 2 either but it has it's perks I'll admit. Haven't played...

    Endless Space

I guess I'll give it a try. Even if some aspects seem incomplete maybe the patches and mods will fix the game somewhat like moo3.

    So, about Geist: The Sin-Eaters...

On first glance this sounds pretty tame/limited compared to the wraith risen guys (I loved the Underworld and the Labyrinth) but the symbiotic bit could be fun roleplaying-wise like Wraith's shadow vs psyche conflicts. On the other hand it's probably easier to pick up and run a group with it...

    My New M:tA Campaign

Your campaign plan sounds good : open ended and taking time to introduce the game to the players as well. Spheres can be tricky to get confortable with since it's more about limitations than predefined powers/spells. Character based plots are usually better and way more involving than some...

    My New M:tA Campaign

For campaign direction you might want to define the player's mages or at least their traditions/faction first. Another idea would be to have them be apprentices to some big shot cabal by helping them out with their own ascension plans while they figure out their own path.

    Your best fuck-ups

Yeah I had a similar player once except more on the barwench chaser end of the horny/sick spectrum. Flirting with a player's not to my liking and since he cheated on dice rolls anyways I just used vampires/demons or some polymorphed very lonely wizard and so forth. I also gave him that sex...

    KickStarter Legends Of Dawn

Looks like a promising nonlinear diablo type game. Thanks for the headsup

    The Guild Wars 2 Thread

You're probably right on the server lag factor. I thought that I got slideshows in pvp because of my humble hardware specs but yeah on the long run I kinda noticed how often I got dumped on the overflow server. Never was a big pet fan anyways I'm more of a hands on dual daggers guy. They...

Being able to improvise instead of just railroading's one of the better dm traits indeed and one of the reasons why tabletop gaming will always be better than computer games which usually have little replay value storywise. If the players are more interested by some random encounter than the...

    The Guild Wars 2 Thread

The necro's minions are kind of useless to begin with since they often just run around aggroing stuff without attacking effectively but that one's really aggravating indeed. I understand that in guild wars 1 that it was overpowered but there's a limit to overnerfing. At least there's a few...

    The Guild Wars 2 Thread

I been playing more casually lately so my impressions might be outdated a bit... That ascended gear/fractal deal reeks of powercreep and they keep adding beta content without even fixing the class bugs. I'm used to playing the underdog classes (main's a necro) but that reanimator trait's...

    D&D Next rules discussion extravaganza!

I'll probably stick to Pathfinder because they actually added some pretty cool character options among other things like monster fluff/ecologies like we had in 2e and they seem to avoid the spatbook rules bloat/power creep syndrome pretty well so far. From what little I've seen from 4e it was...

    Your best fuck-ups

I'm running a Pathfinder in FR campaign with a bunch of lvl 3 guys that we're travelling in some pretty dangerous goblinoid and giant infested hills. I had this planned encounter with a hill giant which was way out of their league and was supposed to be a hazard to avoid more than a killer dm...

    D&D5e is coming.

Meh I'll stick to pathfinder since they have great writers and didn't just reprint the earlier edition. I fooled around a bit with 4e and it seemed too limited as far as build options go. The apparent lack of non combat powers also turned me off seems like you can't do jack without swinging...
