What multiplayer fps to play this autumn?

After having played the COD: Black Ops free multiplayer on steam over the weekend (mostly with a rl buddy, which puzzlingly and slightly worryingly enough made stabbing and fragging all the more fun) I realised two things. One, I crave another multiplayer shooter. Two, I find these constricted multiplayer maps of that latest COD lame as hell. So, what game should I pick?

COD: MW3 will be out soonish and it looks, well, just like the previous CODS. I have no doubt that mp will have its merits but the lame level design from Black Ops and the habit of every COD to have close constricted maps turns me off. Not to mention the gargantuan amount of 12 year old bunny hopping add tards that will no doubt flock there to mock me.

Battlefield 3 looks like it should be fun. Large open levels to bring mayhem to, vehicles to blow up and blow shit up with, 64 players and all the other hallmarks of the Battlefield franchise. Then there is Origin however which apart from deleting all my porn is also going to send it straight to the EA mainframe for analysis. That's scary and bad and scary. Not to mention that apparantly vehicles heal themselves. What the fuck?

Red Orchestra Heroes of Stalingrad should be the ELITE HARDCORE one to look out for. With ironsights the only way to hit a barn, bullets being rather lethal and cover mechanics. Wait, what? Well, perhaps apart from that it does look and sound rather brilliant on paper. Especially considering its pedigree. Then again, the practice might be a bit off. From the beta it seems maps are rather smaller than anticipated, rounds are fast, furious, over in moments and a bit more arcadey than expected and somehow a lot of former fans seem a bit disappointed with it all. Then again, they seem a grumpy lot.

What to do? What to do? Am I missing a game?

The maps are varied, of the maps in rotation right now, barracks is the only one I would call small, the other two are on par with RO1 maps. The rounds have more of a TF2-ish set-up where if you get stuck on a point for too long the round ends. I can't really say if I like that or not, though.

Also, don't bash the game because of the cover system, it doesn't put you in 3rd person or anything like that, in fact the only thing I ever use it for is blind firing around corners and over sand bags, though you can't hit shit because it's actual blind fire.

After playing the beta, I'd say it's shaping up very nicely.

64.

Yes, as the first one. You can find in the first RO 128 players servers though, so I guess it will be the same with RO2

1. Gee, who would have thought that a nazi band could be shit. The song is fun though.
2. I am as German as the most german German. My blood is pure according to records going back to 1729. No crossbreeding with slavs. Just because war wrecked havoc across the continent and 'displaced' my ancestors, doesn't make me a slav. Slavs deserve to get eradicated for making young women clothed in potato sacks fend of wolves with sticks in a kazakhian winter.
3. Sofort in die Dusche!
4. I made a picture for you and didn't get anything in return... http://rpgcodex.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php ... t=#1778399

Depends on what you prefer I guess.

Battlefield seems to be more arcadish (speaking from experience with the previous title) while RO 2 is more hardcorish (with emphasis on ish, not as hardcore as RO 1).
In the previous Battlefield title I experienced more run 'n gun, 'run around on your own while caring little for objectives' type of gameplay by others while in RO 2 you will hopefully find a tad more team oriented people.

/e forgot CoD. Only played Singleplayer in those games. But many vids on Youtube proofed to me: DO NOT TOUCH

For me I've preordered Heroes of Stalingrad, and waiting for reviews and Kodex Konsensus on Battlefield 3.
