A chase on understanding the rest function in NwN. The default rest time is 10 Real-Time seconds, through editing the .2da responsible, it can be set at 3 Real-Time seconds.
Since the default Real Life minutes=In-Game hour in NwN is 2 minutes, meaning a full RL hour is 30 hours of IG time. If a module would follow a 5 RL minutes = an IG hour, a full RL hour would equal 12 hours. An IG day would be two hours of Real Time.
10 RT seconds for a rest equals 5 minutes default IG time. 10 RT seconds equals 2 minutes of 5min./1hour IG. 3 RT seconds would equal an infinite 0.6(666) override IG minutes.
666, a welcome sight, bear with me. 1 IG round equals 6 IG seconds. Multiply that by 50, 10 for each minute, and 5 minutes default IG time equal 300 seconds IG.
Putting on full plate armour takes from 8 to 10 minutes. This means 600 seconds or a 100 rounds of IG time. Default RL time would be at 0.3(333) minutes or 20 seconds. With the module which counts a full RL hour as the half of a day, it would take a neat 50 seconds or a rounded up 0.84 of a minute.
Resting takes 10 RL time seconds by default, 25 RL time seconds by the module. In Game that would mean 5 minutes by default, 12.5 minutes by the module.
Resting using the modified .2da to go with the module would give a rounded up 8.4 RL time seconds, a rounded up 4.17 minutes IG.
Riddle me this, what should be the duration of the rest if I go with either the default 2 minutes = 1 hour or my proposed 5 minutes = 1 hour?
I figure that resting should take at least a 10 minutes and so, the module wins in regards to realism and playability. However, is the modified .2da the right way to continue? After all, no one wants to wait for hours on end to finish resting.
However, resting should be realistic or it will be a gimmick and a cheat for players to use. Opinions?
EDIT: Weird, I've put the stopwatch on the doubled rest duration and it was a 30 seconds. Pretty good for the default since that's a quarter of an hour by the 2 RL minutes equals 1 IG hour. As for the 5 RL minutes equals 1 IG hour, that would be a 45 IG minutes.
