Yeah, de-Buddhisising Buddhism and 'modernising' Buddhism has been a thing for a while now; for example the most populous form of Buddhism in India today is a politically-based 'Buddhism', with everything geared equality around this life.

Buddhas are sentient beings that have removed all afflictive obscuraitons and knowledge obscurations; robots aren't conscious so they can't be on the path, no more than a rock can. Buddhas emanating nirmanakayas as bridges, books, anything that helps is okay, but those things aren't made by a person, they're manifested directly.
