Eschalon is soon to be released, the official date is the 19th of November 2007.
Here they have already added a "buy the game" button, complete with price listing, and it seems you can download Eschalon: Book I directly from their website once it is released. Also, you can download it directly when you've bought the CD version, too, so no waiting till the CD ships to your home before you can start playing. Personally, that system sounds pretty good to me. Also, the CD version has nice goodies:

What do you get with the CD version?
(contents subject to change before release)

The game shipped in a DVD-style case that fits nicely in your existing game or movie collection.

A digital high-resolution world map (on disc), suitable for large dimension printing.

An extended music track of the Theme to Eschalon.

The Eschalon: Book I trailer in several additional formats.

Evolution of a game: a slide show of all the alpha and beta screenshots, as well as some prototype design work, showing the game evolve to its current state.

The world map and soundtrack sound good, even though you gotta print that map yourself. Also, they seem to be releasing a demo before release, and already added the download buttons. So if you've been looking forward to this game, you won't have to wait for that long anymore.
