I found another <a href="http://www.timewastersguide.com/view.php?id=1206">positive review</a> of <a href="http://www.hammer-sickle.com/">Hammer & Sickle</a> today on <a href="http://www.timewastersguide.com">Time-Waster's Guide</a> giving it a <b>5/6</b>. Here's a snippet: <blockquote>H&S leans in the stealthy, clandestine direction—more emphasis is put on the story, and dialogue trees. Instead of just receiving orders from a commanding officer, you instead must interrogate suspects, interview witnesses, and make deals. This is good, to a point. It’s certainly fun to try out different answers in conversations, but it still doesn’t rely on much brainpower and puzzle solving—often, the outcome of the conversation has more to do with luck than dialogue skills. In one of the first big conversations, for example, you wind up getting information for different missions depending simply on whether or not you accept the NPC’s offer of a drink. Thankfully, H&S seems to have avoided the worst of that.</blockquote> People seem to insist on calling this game a tactical RPG rather than a full blown RPG. If there are dialog trees, multiple paths and different consequences depending on your stats what's keeping them? Anyway, the review is pretty solid.

That one aspect, however, is certainly nothing that should deter fans from buying Hammer and Sickle. The game will appeal to the tactical RPG player, as this refines the genre to near-perfect levels. It will appeal to the RPG fan, who wants to visit towns, buy and sell equipment from looted bodies, and ask townspeople for hints. It will appeal to the FPS crowd, who love shooting people just to watch them die (or, in this case, just to watch them fly out a window and get caught in a tree). And it will appeal to the history buff, who is just so dang glad the game doesn’t have laser guns.

Certainly sounds very nice.

Also the lack of laserguns are welcome imo. I didn't think Id be bothered by them when starting out with SS, but somehow they just aren't any fun.

EDIT: Just noticed the same site gave Dungeon Siege 2 a score of 4.5/6.

Well, I haven't played it and I'm still skeptical. Is anyone here going to do a home-grown review? That should clear everything up.
