The third in Graverobber Foundation's series of Geisterstuff wireframe dungeon crawlers has just been announced. If you're familiar with the team's previous games, Der Geisterjäger looks exactly like the sort of thing you'd expect, though it's fair to assume that it will have at least some mechanical changes to it. Here's a part of the short description on the Steam page, including a trailer:

Der Geisterjäger is a brutal single-character dungeon crawler that provides a unique combination of first-person exploration with tactical combat. After the disappearance of a corporate squad during pursuit of an unknown assailant, you're sent to investigate, confirm their status, and help them finish their mission.

YOUR FUTURE IS METAL
Get in your mech, explore the dungeon, and use all tools at your disposal to survive through harsh turn-based battles against security robots and other mechs. Search the map for useful items that will assist you in your mission, examine your surroundings to learn more about the world and events within it, and use navigation markers to avoid getting lost in this claustrophobic network of tunnels.

ONE VS MANY
You're regularly outnumbered and outgunned, but you've got the tools to counter that. Analyze your enemies to learn their strengths and weaknesses, pick the right weapon, stay on the move to avoid getting surrounded, and watch your flanks and stance. Knowing when to fight and when to run is essential to survive in this harsh underground world.

There is no specific release date yet, but you'll get to become a minejumper in Der Geisterjäger still some time in 2021.

Looks really nice but why does it have a German title but not German as an option?
It's a pretty old (and funny) story. The first game (Das Geisterschiff) had a German title as a placeholder, a reference to the 'Japanese use German because it sounds cool' meme, but after a while two things happened: all other titles that were considered were taken, and the title grew on me, so it was decided to keep it that way. As for the localization part, it's in the 'nice to have, might consider later' category, since the actual demand for localization has been pretty low to justify this kind of investment.

What about the random German words seen ingame then? Some of which are not translated IIRC.

These words are limited to street signs (and area names) where they make sense, and you can get an English translation by analyzing them. In this installment you're exploring the neutral sectors for the most part, which aren't forced to use Japanese or German.

How many words are there in game? Didn't seem like a very word heavy game. Or is it not the translation cost itself more the putting the translation into the game? And yes, German isn't that important, Chinese/Japanese would make more sense.

It's not text-heavy, and while I can't give you an exact number while the game is still in development, there's enough text to be quite an undertaking. Plus, I would have to allocate additional time and resources to add localization support, since the game doesn't have it.

At this point -- it's doable in theory, but very impractical given the budget and schedule.

If you decide to do it and need someone in the future to proofread the German stuff, you can pm me - good luck with the release!
