<a href=http://www.gameshark.com/>Gameshark</a>, cheating abode and ocasional purveyor of game news and analysis, has a <a href=http://www.gameshark.com/reviews/2496/Mage-Knight-Apocalypse-Review.htm>review</a> of <a href=http://www.namcobandaigames.com/>Namco</a>'s <a href=http://mageknight.namco.com/main.html>Mage Knight: Apocalypse</a>. The review contrasts with many others seen from other media outlets, ending on a positive note and eventually giving out a B- to the game.

<blockquote>I’ll heartily recommend Mage Knight: Apocalypse to any RPG fan who wants something just a little different out of their hack-n-slash experience – or just wants to play a bad-ass Dwarf who sweeps the landscape clean with miniguns and incendiary grenades – but before picking it up, make sure you have a fairly beefy system, and also check to see if any new patches have been released to curtail some of the major design flaws - this should then ensure you can extract maximum enjoyment.</blockquote>

I'm not sure any patches are going to fix the fundamental flaws in the game's unimaginative design. And if hardcore Dwarf action is your thing, <a href=http://eng.sacred-game.com/index.php?subsiteid=1>Sacred</a> seems to be a better choice.

I just like the juxtaposition of 'heartily recommend' and 'major design flaws'. Clearly the reviewer put in effort comparable to the designers'.

You're on the team now, Role-Player? What made you change your mind? If I recall correctly, you turned down such a position a while ago? Staff needs to be updated, perhaps you should replace that slacker Saint Proverbius.

Anyway, congrats on first newspost!

I had to turn down the previous two invitations for personal reasons, even if I very much wanted to join. However, third time's a charm and I accepted without hesitation because the interest was still there and because I've decided personal reasons should go to hell.

And thanks for the welcome.

Seems like I missed your actual first newstpost, though. But as it only exists in the RPG Codex News Comments subforums, I really can't be blamed, eh? Then again, crappy console ports isn't really front page-material. From now on, get your shit right.

No more free rides!

But seriously, great! There were some long pauses with no news recently, and it's not like there was completely nothing to be posted. As for indie games, there are new Eschalon screens, for example - I read it at RPGWatch.

Oh well, congrats.

Allthough I would really like to see more from Spazmo, his stuff is hilarious (the AoD news posts )

And where the hell is Proverbius? Dead or something? Anybody check his house to see if he isnt rotting in his chear in front of his TV since a few weeks.
Although his last news posts really lacked any kind of the usual cynical wittiness we know from the codex, he still should come back.
Oh well, I guess everything is going down eventually.

Do we get the "year in review" editorial at least? Please let Spazmo do it :D

lol, actually she's back

No, personal stuff like university, family issues and financial troubles. For a while I was also dedicating more time to writing non-videogame related stuff.

One of those reviews where the game sounds awful - full of game stopping bugs and design flaws - yet it gets a decent score for no apparent reason.

The score does not reflect the game as it is, but the game that it could have been. It's like they promise the game publisher a minimum score or something.

Seeing this shit all the time now. I see it with movie reviews all the time ~ "This film is absolute and total shit, with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. 9 out of 10"

I'm surprised it got that high of a score. I went to look through their forums again a couple days ago, and they're, basically, dead. I think that something like the same 5 people keep posting to each other there.

For amusement check out their reviews forum. It's both sad and amusing at the same time...

(I knew this game was a dud when just before it came out some using the nick txa1265(IIRC, writes reviews for gamerdad I think) was on there asking questions about the game and it's release price. Later(after it was released) I saw a comment from a guy using the same nick whose only comment was something along the lines: let me say this it's not nearly worth $50, when asked for his opinion on it.

Add to this if any of you read the post-release review where the developer clearly states it was not meant to be a AAA title, which leads me to question, why the AAA price then?

Also you get to read about how the disaster started when they decided to use a foreign based(no where relative close either, Taiwan) development house who, apparently, had the crappy engine that they used in the game. The art was apparently made in some mainland Chinese graphic art sweatshop.

i.e. short and long they tried to WAY under budget this one and got the POS they deserved...
