It's been out for a while but <a href=http://www.atari.com/nwn2/>Neverwinter Nights 2</a> is still getting some attention. This time it's from <a href=http://www.gameindustry.com/>Game Industry News</a>, who have written a <a href=http://www.gameindustry.com/review/item.asp?id=804>review</a> for <a href=http://www.obsidianent.com/>Obsidian Entertainment</a>'s D&D CRPG.

Overall Neverwinter Nights 2 is a great title which brings together all of the wonderful aspects of the first game, along with controllable party members, your own stronghold, great background music and fantastic voice acting, and wraps it up into a single terrific package.

In your head, obviously
Wonderful aspects of the first game?

Well, I guess those aspects where I kept wondering whether they'd be gone in a sequel:
- loading screens (now they take longer)
- small areas (now they are even smaller)
- linearity (now it's about as linear)
- so many effects that you often can't really figure out what's happening in a fight (now instead of sometimes I often can't figure out, what's happening - but that's okay, because all set on automatic I still win 99% of all fights without having to know that's really happening)

Honestly though, NWN2 is a big disappointment. The only thing they got quite okay is the story and some of the characters. The technical implementation feels amateurish at best (it's still not really possible to play it online - one of the main selling points of the original NWN!)

Oh and why did they just have to cripple that otherwise wonderful idea of the castle-managing minigame by making it dependant on campaign progression?

Wrong. Half the good music is from NWN1. Half the bad music too. Thankfgully, the good outweighs the bad. R00fles!

Yep, if you had played any other bioware games recently from the 1st IE games to KotoR you WOULD recognize MUCH of the sound effects, music, etc. from one of those games. Hell, even a good deal of the background textures and models are from older game to boot. e.g. character voices, music, prop vegetable stand, etc.

GIN ah the site of which the few reviews I have read produced by them have failed to give even the shittiest PC game less than a 9/10 equivalent score...

For the record, I played NWN1 & KOTOR. I simply pressed 2 instead of 1 and did not notice it until a few minutes ago.
