Now that JoWooD Productions is in full control of the Gothic brand, quality Gothic games are about to roll. PB did a good job creating the Gothic world and its characters, but they simply couldn't manage the brand properly and give it the attention it deserves.

JoWooD Productions Software AG and digital infrastructure provider, VeriSign, are happy to announce „Gothic 3 – The Beginning“ for mobile systems. The popular role playing game will be ready for mobile gamers at the beginning of 2008. HandyGames™, with their extensive experience in programming mobile phone games, have been chosen to develop Gothic – The Beginning. We are looking forward to delivering another great Gothic Story to gamers around the world. Have a look at the first known features:

Features:

- Visit various locations in Khorinis and Tirith

- Chat with NPCs to find clues in your adventure and trade with merchants to gain the best equipment for your journey

- Fight against hundreds of monsters and develop your skills to be able to use stronger arm our and weapons

- Learn how to use long banned magic to gain enough power to accomplish your tasks

- Find valuable treasures and pieces of equipment or take them from your conquered enemies

- Pry locks and chests open to find rare treasures

- Auto-save feature at checkpoints throughout the game allows players to continue their adventure at any time
It already sounds much better than Gothic 3! Thank you, JoWood!

I talked to Kai about a month and a half ago. Tried to convince PB to do something, but they are stuck in their silly "we'll do something later, once we sort out the legal mumbo-jumbo crap" ways.

Okay. So Bethesda trashes TES and Fallout, and now JoWood is trashing Gothic.

Sandbox RPG franchises are going down the drain...

Well, Jowood is sending out a pretty strange signal by making this the first release under new devs. As in, let's milk the franchise for everything it's work right now instead of trying to build it up some more. G3, while certainly not considered a masterpiece, has imo given the brand quite a better recognition factor outside of europe than it had before. Can't wait for the wii version. :(

I know, but that seems like typical codex hyperbole. :P

Still it just seems odd.

eh --- :?: this does not make any sense at all, imo.
Jowood making a G3 game for mobile phones :?:

This is hard to believe. I would have guessed perhaps a nice game for the Nintendo DS or the PSP, but noes, it had to for cell phones. Who plays games on their cell phones?? Apparently, some do.

Lame anwer  . Why do care that I care?

Someone else put it simply: A mobile game doesn´t ruin a franchise. Its not a main installment, so it is useless for you people to shit your pants over NOTHING.

If only were that simple. We've heard that nonsense before. Why do you care about Fallout Tactics, it's a different game. Why do you care about FOBOS? That's a console spin-off. Why do you care about XCOM Enforcer? That's like a completely different game designed to compliment the series. Coincidentally, that completely different game has killed the series. As for FOT and FOBOS, they didn't lead to FO3, but to FOT2 and FOBOS2.

Anyway, a cellphone game may not ruin the series, but it represents an important shift, which increases the downfall chance by 75%.

On the topic of Gothic 3, is there actually any way to make that game run good without dropping my FPS to 3-4 every 20 second for 5 seconds to load some random shit 20 miles away?

Cause really I would love to play it, but it's such an utter piece of shit when it plays like that.
