Eschalon is soon to be released, the official date is the 19th of November 2007.

Here they have already added a "buy the game" button, complete with price listing, and it seems you can download Eschalon: Book I directly from their website once it is released. Also, you can download it directly when you've bought the CD version, too, so no waiting till the CD ships to your home before you can start playing. Personally, that system sounds pretty good to me. Also, the CD version has nice goodies:

What do you get with the CD version?
(contents subject to change before release)

The game shipped in a DVD-style case that fits nicely in your existing game or movie collection.

A digital high-resolution world map (on disc), suitable for large dimension printing.

An extended music track of the Theme to Eschalon.

The Eschalon: Book I trailer in several additional formats.

Evolution of a game: a slide show of all the alpha and beta screenshots, as well as some prototype design work, showing the game evolve to its current state.

The world map and soundtrack sound good, even though you gotta print that map yourself. Also, they seem to be releasing a demo before release, and already added the download buttons. So if you've been looking forward to this game, you won't have to wait for that long anymore.

I can't wait to put the demo through it's paces. I'm too jaded to buy a first indie game sight-unseen, but it won't take too much for them to get my money.

Im very excited about this game.

If you care about hard core old school RPG's then at least download the demo and give this one a try!

If it does well, it's set to be a trilogy of 3 games. I sure hope that happens!

Thomas promised me a review copy. Remind him about, Jarl, when you have time. It would be nice to have a review out by the time the game is released.

VD, haven´t you said that you can produce a map and handbook for your game very cheaply?
So, can´t you give them some contacts so they can put those things actually physically in the dvd-case? If they would want that of course. I for myself would pay 5 dollars more for such an edition.

Very cheaply isn't free. I assume that Thomas is aware of all options and simply wasn't interested. We (Jason, Thomas, Steven, and I) discuss things often enough and share some experience, but that topic never came up.

I'll remind him of it. How exactly will the transfer of the review copy happen? Like, I get a download link for it or something?

Eh, might as well ask him himself. Thanks for the tip though.

Yep. Also, a review copy of Depths of Peril is available. Talk to Steven about it. It would be nice to have a proper review and see how the game improved from the preview build that I reviewed.

If you have any questions or need something, you can always PM me.
:salute:

Looks promising. I remember checkin it out several months ago, but I had totally forgotten about it. Do you think the demo will be released before or after Nov 19th?

10 days for release. It would be really cool a Codex review in the day of release (or even a little bit earlier, if spoiler free).

I'd prefer it spoiler free even if it was published on the same day the game is released (or even later), because I don't like spoilers and what's the point of reading a review of a game you've already played?

Interesting thing is that supposedly you'll be able to buy the Windows version and then, after the Mac / Linux versions get released, Basilisk will change the license if you so request.

BasiliskWrangler at RPGWatch:
We will work with users to allow them to get the version they want. Please just contact us within 30 days of the Mac version being released (with your customer number) and we can convert your license for you.

We'll offer the same service when the Linux version is released, allowing you a period of time for license conversion from Windows or Mac. Oh, and of course you can only convert once...no Windows > Mac > Linux conversion.

However, if you really want to support us you'll just buy 8 copies of Eschalon for each platform. ;)

As I take it dialogues in Eschalon aren't anyhow special - but still pretty nicely written - I just hope there will be more branching of them unlike on that screenshot on Eschalon's site.
The art and graphics of the game look very... "warm". They remind of the good old classic rpg days. I still don't have much expectations for this game - but I can only hope to be proven wrong.

Any teasers for the plot/story?

I found this post.

"The storyline of Eschalon involves your character waking up with amnesia. He remembers nothing of his past or even where he is at. Thus, the excitement of playing the game partially centers around you, the player, learning of this world along with your on-screen character."

A little more on the Linux version:

BasiliskWrangler said:
The Linux version will be very close behind the Windows version, possibly around the same time the Mac version comes out.

Here's how I will probably handle the Linux release: since the Linux audience is notably smaller than Windows and Mac, I am going to post the Linux demo sometime in very early December. I will treat this almost like an "open beta test" to see how well it runs for people. If everyone reports back that it is good, I'll put the full version up for purchase.

I made a post about this but it got deleted in the great war. Anyways, I think I might be pretty excited about this. I know that sentence is loaded but it's definitely how I feel for this game. Just go in with the lowest possible expectations and then I will come out with win, hopefully. The character development seems deep, with it's different religions and it's old school dice and fun stuff like that. I hope the world is entertaining but I'm not expecting much on that front. I wouldn't go in thinking this is full of choices and consquences because it's just not that type of game. Eschalon is definitely a combat game through and through.I hope their is alot of replayability to the game. Not much rpg, or games for that matter have come out lately and had good replayability.
