Who cares it was released in September? Any day is a good day to celebrate the memory of Saint Proverbius, who a few years ago posted about this game every week. Saint isn't around anymore, but the guys behind FreeDroid still tinker with their creation. So, if you always wanted to play a linuxian penguin whacking evil robots with his flippers, head straight to the download page.

What's new in this version?

This release brought back Sorenson and Magic into the game.
While those bits are not fully developed yet, they are a nice starting point.
We also added a new quest, a new bot and a new area.
A lot of things in the game were given new graphics, quite notably the main interface and dialog fonts.
Translations are mostly up to date, we have German and French at the moment. The Polish and Russian translations are in progress.
There were the usual bugfixes, small gameplay and performance improvements, etc.
The game looks really nice for a free, indie title.

I like the instructions for Linux users :)
If you are a Linux user, you are bright enough to figure everything out anyway, like which package you want for your system and the like, and I need not explain anything to you anyway.

BTW, this is the one that Fez did a mini-review of back in Feb 2005 in the Indie RPG thread.

I imagine it's improved a bit since then.

What's exceptional about this game?

I'll tell you what isn't exceptional: the whole open source rocks! - down with microsoft! shtick of of this game. pandering doesn't even begin to describe it. i never understood the whole appeal of linuxites making games around their mascot. it never struck me as particularly cute. in my mind it's only a step above mckids.
