The game based on the work of Arkadij and Boris Strugatsky finally has its English demo, hoasted at Computergames.ro and Gamershell.com (the links point to the pages on which the demo is offered). A snippet from the summary:
One of the most prominent features of the game is of course the true spirit of the Strugatskys' novel. The game universe, the dark medieval atmosphere, the key figures from the novel, the Kingdom of Arkanar, – the whole world from the book is being carefully created anew under the supervision of one of its demiurges, Boris Natanovich Strugatsky.
The great variety of social strata typical to medieval age provides another game feature which can be called "the true role playing". Depending on a situation or an environment, a character can choose a role to play, pretending to be a noble man or a mere citizen or a member of some guild. This allows him to gain trust of NPCs with different alignments. A player can create several legends for each role of his character. The character will introduce himself with this legend to NPCs. If the truth behind the legend is revealed, the player can make up another legend reading books and talking to other NPCs.

I'm going to give it a try because I loved the book. I'll let you guys know what I think.

Edit: Tried it and it was so shit I can't even be bothered to talk about why. Just don't bother playing it. Consolised shite.

Downloading the demo right now.

Speaking about demos, a video of Space Siege is up. Either watch SD/HD flash video here or download from the official site here.

Controls look bad. They should have implemented something simpler like in Survival Crisis Z -I should play that game again soon. Anyway, it's gonna bomb if you ask me.

Played russian demo, when it was released. Stupid crap with loads of bloom, that outshines anything, that could possibly resemble the dark and gritty world of Arcanar. Those dirty capitalist imperialists have corrupted mighty Russkiya after all.
Kombat is retarded, accompanied by silly amounts of foes spawned after every couple of steps, which makes me wanna puke. Didn't notice anything interestingl in those couple of conversations with npcs.
Ruskies should be prohibited from making rpgs by international law.

 Do you compare these Russki RPGs with the legends or something released today, like Titan Quest, Space Siege and the like?

I don't compare them to anything. It's just the fact, that every russian rpg, no matter how promising it seemed at first, turned out craptastic. Not that i'm gloating over it. Just the oposite. I remember how i was hyped about Metalheart and what a disaster it turned out to be. Good times. :/

Ok, Dungeon Cleaners might be half decent if i manage to play it further. And Hammer & Sickle was hot, but it wasn't commercial project at it's core. More like mod turned official module.

Actually, almost every modern RPG is crap, not only russian.
But you forgot Space Rangers 2, its one of the best.

Well, game developement in Russia is still not all that mature... well, I understand myself that it's not that strong argument, case RPGs seem to get shitter and shitter with every passing year, not vice versa. (With a handful exceptions).
Btw, did anyone try Pathologic? That's 'adventure-RPG' that is very nonlinear. In Russia it's called "Мор. Утопия", and I missed it's release, and now I simply cannot buy it. It's fucking gone! :(
But people who played it say it's VERY dialogue-heavy, lot's of C&C, very wierd (but in a good way, like MOTB) setting, etc.
Two flaws: a. Looks like shit. b. Buggy (but I heard patches remedied that).
I think that quite qualifies as 'Codex material'... but I suspect it may be very difficult to translate, and therefore it (translation) sucks.
So, anyone tried it?

EDIT:
Based on Wikipedia game entry, translation IS shit. Why I'm not surprised?
I highly doubt that the 'restoration project' will be done any time soon.

I've been hearing praises for this piece forever. Sadly never seen it on shelves here in Riga either. Did get H&S almost instantly after release in teh mother russia, but not this one. It's probably considered too niche to even be exported anywhere. I wonder how it sold and what devs are doing right now.
