BigDownload are reporting:

According to what Urquhart told us, "We are doing fine and do not have to shut down operations. We are still actively developing Alpha Protocol and are working on another couple of properties." Alpha Protocol is Obsidian's other game for Sega, a third person action-RPG in the super-spy genre that is expected to be released sometime in 2009. Urquhart would not comment on the rumors of the Aliens RPG cancelation nor on the reports of layoffs at the company. One of their other games they might be working on is a rumored third expansion pack for Neverwinter Nights 2.

When in doubt, retreat to what you know. NWN2 expansion with re-used alien assets? Now that would be fun.

Using unconfirmed rumours to mock a company lulz. It's not like theres a shortage of real stuff to criticise about Obs.

Also, "we are doing fine" from a CEO has to be the most apocalyptic comment ever.

Your ignore list.
Considering the degree of grandeur delusion those folks at Obsidian possess on regards to the RPG genre and so on, it wouldn't be surprising if they apply for a slice of Obama's economic package on grounds of firing all their employees if no aid is given to them.

Really, if the Aliens RPG wasn't in the shit right now, Feargus would be out saying "What's everyone talking about? Aliens RPG is fine". "No comment" is business-speak for "our lawyers are in negotiation at the moment trying to salvage what they can".

At best, I expect a scaled back puzzle game. Still, aliens in my NWN2 would be fun...

Alpha Protocol is also being made for SEGA? I'd be updating my CV if I was working at Obsidian...

DU: Yeah, I said it was pretty apocalyptic a comment from Feargie. But really the mystical 3rd xpack doesn't have a lot to do with it, if it even exists.

What did we expect anyway? 'We're not fine'?

"We're doing fine."

... That's what they said at Ritual just before they got bought out by and assimilated into Mumbo Jumbo.... :(

Glad to hear that they apparently going to survive. Shame about the alien one though.

Reminds me of that Irak minister. Everything is fine, we are winning the war and the Americans were like 50 feet away from Bagdad.

Maybe, or maybe the grave dancers are like that Ameriqan minister who prematurely declared victory.

Bloody hell if they HAVE to use an older engine use ToEE's fntastic engine with gorgeous animated backdrops (leaves fall!!) The Infinity Engine was gangraped for years, why not the ToEE? Use it for a new vamp game, or a 4e game, or a brand new game.

They've been using Jupiter since NOLF2.
Probably it is a modification yet the games made with it look too different visually to lithtech games. And not only because of shaders - physics, different lighting etc.
Jupiter games even launch differently - if you remember lithtech games always contained a console application through which they were launched.
