... because Destructoid says so:

“As part of trying to build the game, as ambitious as it was, one of the things we weren’t able to do technically was to have the support in the game itself for certain kinds of downloadable content,” Hudson said, speaking to the first Mass Effect and its hang-ups.
[...]
Hudson continued, saying that "pretty much the whole team" will begin working on DLC once the game is ready to ship, and that content could be influenced by fans: “Once we’re done working on Mass Effect 2, pretty much the whole team switches into working on really cool downloadable content. That’s where we like to listen to what fan feedback is for ‘where do you want to go’ and ‘what kinds of things do you want to see.’ “

DLC details remains unannounced, but if a recent retailer survey has the right of it, we can expect “planned episodic combat via DLC,” weapon and armor packs, new downloadable characters for the “campaign experience,” new downloadable worlds, as well as “full campaign expansions for download.” And all of that is in addition to some sort in-game "periodic update" network dubbed Cereberus Network.
[...]
“What we found was that the content we could produce with a small team in a short time just wasn't up to the standards we wanted to produce for DLC,” she continued in response to our question. “We were able to produce more uncharted-world level content in a reasonable time, and that's what we originally envisioned ‘Bring Down The Sky’ as being, but in an early project review we just didn’t feel that it was measuring up to what we wanted from DLC.”

Mass Effect - Delivering what you want in dribs and drabs at $1.95 a piece! The Mass Effect website also got a work over.

I guess smart gamer will have to wait for the "comeplete" editions. Of course the companies know very well that most players ain't that smart and might be to excited to be able to wait.

Fucking hate this DLC shit. Enough reason for anyone to torrent these games. If you actually bought your shareware game, you would at least get a decent amount of extra game.

Moo?
Uh huh, we heard there would be lots of DLC for the first Mass Effect, too.

'Bring Down the Sky' was the only one I can remember for it.

Pinnacle Station and Bring down the sky. Haven't tried Pinnacle station as it doesn't seem interesting. But it's there in my launcher.

Why don't they just go ahead and make the entire game DLC?

$1.99 for the character creator ($.50 for each class and/or weapon unlock)
$2.99 per NPC (must have bought a minimum of 2 because you can ONLY play with a 3 person party)
$1.99 for tutorial level (mandatory)
$1.99-$3.99 for each level further

Not even doing it out of spite and stuff would justify to have Mass Effect siting on my hard disk thingie while i wait for my ratio to equalize, and i'm willing to bet mass effect 2 is going to be the same crappy thingie, just with better graphics and more extreme thingies.

And they said the same about this DLC stuffy stuff for the first game, and then they only went and made the one with the asteroid thingie, and then another one to link both games i think. But they had, like, the time to make a game for mobiles or something, meh. If the fans fall for it again they deserve whatever Bioware wants to do with them, nya.

The DLC content for Mass Effect was up to Microsoft, as they were the publisher for it.

Mass Effect 2 now has EA as the Publisher, so there will likely be more DLC options for it this time around.
