Apparently there is a game called The Chronicles of Ny being developed by ClownKeep. This game will be produced in episodes and sold at about $10 an episode. I guess it's something like Siege of Avalon. According the website, role-playing is the core idea of the game, so dialogues would be important and choices would matter. We shall see about that, but for now read this interview, courtesy of Within Games.

There will be adventurer´s joining our party on our quest against the evil. How many people can there be in the party and how does the buildup affect the gameplay?

The game starts with the Player and One NPC. This PC can be dismissed if desired. Up to three NPC´s can be a part of the adventuring party. Group make-up is very important, because you don´t directly control the NPC´s You can easily view them and be aware of their strengths and drawbacks, but they do have their own goals, motivations and needs and finding the right mix of NPC´s is a part of the fun. You can control them through dialogue, but if you find someone that just won´t listen, it might not matter if he or she is a great fighter. Your party composition is also important because your character has only basic skills. If you add a couple of great fighters to your party, you will be free to develop in many other areas. But if you don´t have some muscle up front, you´re going to be focusing a lot of your talents in fighting.

This is one of the many things that are unique about "The Chronicles of Ny". In every RPG I have played, and that´s a lot, the party members do whatever the player wants them to. That´s nice, it makes the game easier to play, but if a giant arrow selected me and told me to jump off a cliff I would think twice before doing so. The people in your party have personalities and motivations, if player doesn´t like that person then they get rid of them and find someone more compatible.

From the beginning of time people tried to find appropriate ways to control the beast that is an NPC. It seems to me that a new Champion of that cause has risen.

You never know. We trusted many companies with much cooler names like BioWare to make RPGs in the past and yet the results were less then impressive. Although, I gotta admit I don't have much faith in this project currently.

It's also an indie effort, with the episodes downloadable. Will be available for Linux, too.

So it seems that the interviewee didn't play Fallouts. And yet he boasts about having played a lot of CRPGs.

This one's funny:
The game starts with the Player and One NPC. This PC can be dismissed if desired.
So, you see, we've got something truly original here. You can dismiss the sole Player Character! What you're left with will be the NPC - under full control of the player, of course. Talk about identity of indiscernibles. "Others have PCs - our game has fully controllable NPCs".

I think that should read "This NPC can be dismissed...". Yes, he's overlooking games like Fallout and Arcanum. Still, real NPCs is better than not.
