Thanks to Blue's News I've just discovered the existence of a turn-based strategy/RPG in the same vein as the X-Com series called UFO: Extraterrestrials. The game comes from a group of "silly" Czechs calling themselves Chaos Concept. Here's some information about it:

Main features
1. Advanced Artificial Intelligence developed by experts who graduated cybernetics
We have set as our aim to develop an advanced artificial intelligence for alien units that guarantees real challenge for each great strategist.

2. FMS Free Movement Standard - destroy anything you want
Free Movement Standard makes unit's movements very close to reality.

For example if your soldier can't get inside a building due to aliens blocking all entrances. Do not worry. Go around the building and use a proper weapon, for instance rocket launcher, to make an entrance of your own.

3. Third side
Third side in UFO:Extraterrestrials includes police, army and civilians. The police keeps eye on everything that is happening in the cities, the army holds their bases and civilians do their own business such as shopping, dateing, harvesting crop in the country, mining in the mines or just trying to save their lives...

Check it out. I wonder when they're going to start hyping the game.

Edit: Added the 'silly'. Happy?

I've known about this for awhile, seems everyone is jumping on the 'Lets name a game UFO and make it like X-com' wagon.

I vote that in front of the word czech you have to put silly. So it would be.

I think that seems a little better. I don't just mean this once, I mean whenever the word czech is used you have to put silly in front of it.

Umm.. why would you not be able to get into a building because a bunch of aliens are standing in the doorway and for that you have to get a rocket launcher and break a wall down instead? That seems pretty dumb to me, even if it is environmentally interactive.

I vote that StraitLacedDeviant will be renamed to StraitLacedSillyTroll.

Otherwise the game looks very promising.

Umm just think of it as an alternative point of entry. I did that in Silent Storm and X-Com all the time. You didn't want to go head to head against an army of goons, so you'd pick them off one by one by entering the side where they weren't prepared for you.

Silly is reserved for rabbits, Czechs need to get their own word

I'd say that in this case, silly applies more to StraitLacedDeviant, but what the heck.

This game does sound interesting, but like Pat said, there's a lot of X-Com pretenders out there. Besides that, you always hear lots about ambitious games coming from Eastern Europe that eventually seem to disappear, so I'll wait and see on this one.

Who says it doesn't apply to both Czechs and this GayDeviantWhatever guy?
