One of the most interesting releases of 2011, the FPS/RPG hybrid E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy, has undergone a hefty patching, improving the AI and NPC spawn, resolving some exploits, as well as introducing new Steam achievements:

Major update available on Steam

A new update/patch has been released for E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy. One of the new features is a completely new setup panel for the artificial intelligence. As for the major issues, the characters’ resets and deletions have been fixed; we also heavily modified the respawn systems for the players and especially the NPC, so they don’t feel like they appear out of thin air behind players’ backs or magically spawn anymore. We also resolved various exploits.

We strongly recommend you to start a new game from the beginning with a new character in order to enjoy the various changes and the deletion of many bugs in the best way possible.

We apologize for releasing this update belatedly, for having left the Christmas achievements and features hanging for so long, but we wanted to fix several critical bugs and to modify so many things.

Additions/Modifications:

Updated: Improved AI and squad tactics.
Added: Several new AI management options: sound detection, sight distance, shooting reaction time and shooting accuracy.
Updated: All the NPC spawn and repop system has been reworked; NPC don’t spawn in your back anymore, for example.
Updated: General latency reduced, especially on cm_new_eden, cm_noctis, cc_noctis, cc_purge and cm_purge.
Updated: NPC spawn frequencies on cm_forgotten.
Added: 43 new achievements.
Added: Messages during death caused by PSI shocks, medkit overdoses and hacking.
Added: Messages when players are hurt by PSI shocks, medkit overdoses and hacking.
Removed: Christmas gifts and reindeers.
Updated: Every magazine took in the armory now counts as one magazine, except for the Betty Boom.
Updated: Change of the font used in game.
Updated: Cubemap optimization on cc_falling.
Updated: Animations played during the cyber-brain transaction between the Special Force and the Culter on cc_new_eden.
Updated: Mapcycle.txt and maplist.txt filled with all cm_ maps.
Updated: Synicle and Manduco NPC animations compiled outside of the main model.
Updated: AI settings during the siege on cc_forgotten.
Added: Music track on cm_dreams.
Added: In coop campaign, if the master of fate leaves the game, the warp level is immediately launched in order to choose a new master of fate.
Added: When a player dies or disconnects, their sentries and scrabouillors are now destroyed.
Updated: Limitation of the velocity due to received damages.
Added: Maximum number of active grenades at a same time.
Updated: Improvement of the player respawn routine.
Updated: Improvement of the spawning routine at the beginning of a level.
Updated: The resurector does not kill nearby NPC and players anymore.
Added: Using the Dragon on an enemy where the teleportation isn’t possible will kill the user.
Added: The Deus Ex pushes away foes attacking it in close-range.
Updated: Change of the electric box sound on cc_tuto.

Numerous bug fixes have also been implemented; for the full list, see the official website.

Meh.
E.Y.E had a lot of potential, but all in all the game is shit.
I applaud them for their ambition, but the game is an unfinished, unpolished shit, which is a real shame. It could have been something fantastic.
It's missing a year or two of development time.

E.Y.E...
The only thing I can say about it is: THAT game tells you all about the difference between visual style/atmosphere and graphics.
Graphics are absolutely modest, style is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen in a long time. Reminds me of the best "dark" animes
and comics of the nineties. As for gameplay... the patch fixes the spawn? I have to check in which way, since the fucking indiscriminate
spawning is one of the big no-nos for a heavily armoured combat char.

Their tone might be lost in translation but when I read the developers posts on the Steam forum it seemed like they were being a bit snarky and said something to the effect of: 'We got a ton of money (relatively speaking) from the sales so these last few months we've been coasting on that and buying crap for ourselves.' They seemed pretty ambivalent on whether or not they were actually going to support EYE further rather than work on a sequel/another game. I told them they'd want to hire a decent translator this time and that their sales might not be so good if they leave EYE in the sloppy state it is currently still in (even after the patch).

We didn’t, because after the release we bought all the stuff for the company (licenses to work), paid designers and freelance designers as well as people who decided to leave the team. We just have enough to start a new project without needing crowdfunding at the beginning.

To use transparency, I will even use a number: we sold a bit more than 140K units and we continue to sell the game quietly each month.

So as for the bourgeoisie, it’s not that… We prefer to bet on the future of the company and avoid the hold-up syndrome that’s so common in France – it’s particularly true for small companies, for example I’m doing a prototype and I leave with the funds from aid and funding, all with crazy dividends… We let that to the specialists of the kind, we are too bloody stupid for that.

In short, we have funds to be completely independent for some time without needing to beg anywhere. For that we thank all the people who bought and continue to buy the game. For the majority they are Americans, the units sold in France being quite the same as in Japan

, it has been the big surprise. That’s to say the units sold in our country weren’t top-notch.

About great luxury for the company and its employees: a big TV (2,000€) in a break-room with consoles like a PS3, Wii, Xbox and a really great luxury a Neo-Geo… That’s crazy! And it’s not for luxury as they’re used in order to study gameplay.

(...)

After that, we went to buy furniture, stuff and all things like that. We see things in grand, so in order to hire people we have to please them… they are pleased, but it took us a long time.
And if that wasn’t enough, you have to add the search of an accountant, tax specialists, lawyers… and all the administrative things as well (curiously moving the office creates more papers and annoyances than creating a company from scratch), and we still aren’t finished with the administrative stuff.

In short, we’re having a lot of fun, we haven’t had a lot time to develop, and I’m not taking into account the fact that we also have to begin a new project, and the pre-production also needs some time.

Decipher from that what you will.

I seem to have totally missed this one. However, from the video it looks like your average run-n-gun shooter and using the iron sight to shoot, ugh  ! ... am I wrong? Opinions from those who have played it.

Haven't tried it since the new patch, but it was a very Deus Ex-like game with amazing atmosphere, cool graphical style and a lot of great ideas. Unfortunately the game was buggy and unfinished as hell, but seems like the 1.3 might have made the game very much playable.

What mindx2 said.

Who ever did the E.Y.E. logo, probably earned them a good portion of those 100,000 sales. Brilliant.

Yeah it has iron sights but it is still a pretty solid rough gem. It's sort of like a low budget but slightly deeper version of Deus Ex. Lots of attributes and skills. You just have to be really patient because there is no manual and the tutorials are often incomprehensible.

It's a brilliant game, if rough around the edges (for one, the translation is pretty terrible). I really hope there will be a sequel.

Me too. I played about ten hours of it and I genuinely had fun, I will be playing it again in the summer. It does need a lot of tweaks and fixes but I'd easily recommend it to anyone looking for a different experience than today's mainstream games.

run-n-gun shooter and using the iron sight to shoot

Iron sights make sense in this game, though, because unlike modern "realistic" shooters that consist of medium-sized rooms connected by narrow corridors, some of the later levels in the game are pretty freaking huge and engagements at several hundred meters distances aren't exactly uncommon. I'm not sure if I can call it Deus Ex-like, however, despite the obvious influences. It felt more like Hellgate London/Borderlands to me, except with much more interesting and fluid action part coupled with unique mind-bending atmosphere.

Finished it once a couple of weeks ago. Won't be rolling up a new character, but time to hit out for the true ending. Quality game
