Review Diablo 3: The 2nd-Hand Trouser collection simulator that's not worth finishing

Yahztee is bored with saving the world, collecting useless health potions, 2nd-hand trousers and walking around the same rooms that have been randomly connected slightly differently in his review of Diablo 3. He didn't bother to finish the game.

Thanks Fens!

I'm sorry, but why does Yahtzee qualify as news? If one of us is interested in him, I think he knows that a new ZP is out every wednesday, and doesn't need a RPGCodex homepage newspost.
Plus, Yahtzee is such a mixed bag of opinions and weirdness, it's impossible to discuss. And while I salute him for his general dislike of multiplayer, escort missions and ill-conceived padding, he's
often a painfully unfunny weirdo.

I liked this one. He did raise a few valid issues and I chuckled 2-3 times. Nonetheless, he should simply keep away from "reviewing" RPGs and games with slight RPG-elements (like D3). Shitting on RPG-elements because he doesn't like RPGs does nothing for anybody.

that's a good question... and as i'm usually the one who submits yahtzee's videos as possible news items, here's my pitch:
- it's not about rpgs (or rpg lites) every wednesday... if you don't want to watch his stuff every wednesday just to not miss a rpg video, you get a codex news post when it's relevant
- his videos are seen by a lot of people, who usually don't play rpgs and form their opinion based on what they see/read on the internet... i think it's interesting to see where their opinions originate
- he does usually have some valid points (kinda like skyway)
- his style is not everybody's cup of tea, but neither are roguelikes, jrpgs, arpgs or mca-worship as news
- taking a drink everytime someone repeats the old "he was never funny" line, gets you drunk fast

Eh I find Yahtzee's criticisms can be quite good in the genres he's actually familiar with. His critique of something like DXHR was pretty good. And he shares the same hatred of regenerating health and popamole garbage. But he's obviously interested in only certain genres of games and RPGs aren't one of them.

D3 could've have been a good review, god knows there's so many faults with that game, but instead his issues with it stem from just not liking RPGs, or rather hack n slashes, in general.

I certainly don't think ZP is newsworthy, even for RPGs because of that. Many of the things he dislikes about RPGs are things we'd actually enjoy about them.

My current feelings about Yahtzee are best summed up by his own words in his Metal gear solid 4 review.

"It's funny how things stop being funny the longer you live with them"

Yahtzee has entered the Maddox zone of "you were funny before you attacked [xyz]".

Maddox stopped being funny because he updated his page once a year. Yahtzee, because I just grew tired and it was mostly console games I had no interest in, plus the new ones are really hard to understand too.

Yahtzee was kinda funny, back when he included jokes in his speedy talk routine. Now that it's just the routine, well, it's not.

Maddox was funny back in the day, possibly around or just little after he started raving about his Best Book in the Universe or whatever. Then he stopped updating regularly, stopped picking interesting topics and, worst of all, just felt like a forced rehash of his old rage-filled ravings.

Or maybe I just outgrew them at some point.

Yeah, I know. Same thing with George Carlin. Stopped being funny because he shaved his beard.

Every single Yahtzee thread is something like:

* I like the guy
* Was never funny
* Not funny anymore
