Lady Error has been kind enough to let us know about the free single-character turn-based first-person dungeon crawler called Deepfall Dungeon. It also has random encounters, randomly generated mazes, and grid-based movement.

Apparently it was released last year, but better late than never, right?

DEEPFALL DUNGEON is a retro-styled RPG game. You play a hero who must enter the dreaded Dungeon and find the exit before you are devoured by monsters! Hundreds of items to collect, intense strategic battles and Hi-Res modern 3d graphics!

Features - hundreds of generated mazes - no two games are ever the same. Ten different monster types, each requiring their own strategy to defeat. It is designed to feel like an old-school RPG such as Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder, Dungeon Hack etc.

Here's also a commentary-free gameplay video of the game's first 9 minutes:

Thanks Lady Error!

Geez. Really, in terms of aesthetics and music less is more if your resources are limited. Go for a simpler art style and more simplistic SFX (and BGM!) until you're confident that the quality is decent enough and whatever you planned got executed competently.

i not much for the "dont see the monster until you step on it" type of games, reminds me too much of JRPG's (and i have played Bard's Tale series alot.) but i will prob try this.
