Macteen has posted a review of Geneforge 3, giving it 4.5/5 for "engrossing storylines and fun gameplay".

Another nice touch is that there are usually multiple approaches to any given situation. Instead of simply fighting your way through an obstacle, sometimes you can sneak by or talk your way through if you’ve spent enough points in the corresponding skills. Even if you can find alternate solutions to some problems, though, there are still many times where you’ll have to crack some skulls if you want to proceed. Thankfully, Geneforge 3’s combat system manages to remain fun without becoming too complicated. It works similarly to most turn-based RPGs: each character you control starts off their turn with 8 action points, which are used to move, attack, cast spells and use items. The enemies will exhibit some pretty impressive AI, too. I’ve seen them try and single out my weaker characters, run away when weakened, attack in groups and even run for help when outnumbered.

I wish there was less fighting, more "multiple approaching", but the game isn't bad, so give it a try.

They could of toned down the fighting as you move though wild areas, but hasnt geneforge always been like that?

Geneforge has often been on the combat heavy side, I felt. Not too bad though. Is that a hint on how you want your own game to come out, VD?

No, it wasn't a hint, just an observation. GF combat was always the weakest and less interesting part of the series, so it would have been nice to see more of the stronger elements.

As for AoD, I stated many times that the focus was on non-combat ways to handle quests and progress through the game. I even had a mini flame war with Role-Player who felt that a 100% diplomatic path was unrealistic.

Geneforge's comabt wouldn't be so bad if combat didn't automatically end your turn. That pisses me off to no end.

That is one of the flaws I didn't like either. He's had three games to get it right too. It's wearing thin by now.

Geneforge's combat *is* bad. Nothing wrong with a combat heavy RPG except when the combat is weak. Combat in GF sucks. They are games to be played in spite of.

I would love a game where a pure diplo/smooth talker path was possible and am hoping to see this in AoD (or D...which the fuck is it btw Dweller?). Of recent games Arcanum was best about this.

It's possible. There are quite a few non-combat paths depending on skills. Every situation could be resolved in 4-6 ways. Naturally, the combat way is only one of those.

(or D...which the fuck is it btw Dweller?).
I never called it D. The working name, that I'm ok with, btw, is AoD. Then people started bitching (as usual) and demanded a new name, something totally awesome and wickedly cool. Like Hawt Dungeon Battle. Or Evil Blades of Horrible Death. At some point Decadence was suggested, with an option for a porno movie loosely based on the game events reserved.

I hope that answered your question.

Due to time constraints, we had to cut the togas out, so it's just Tits: the RPG musical.
