<a href=http://www.gamecloud.com>GameCloud</a> has posted an <a href=http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=1942>interview</a> with Namco's producer Chris Wren about the upcoming masterpiece <a href=http://www.namco.com/games/mkapocalypse>Mage Knight Apocalypse Other Cool Stuff</a>:
<br>

<br>
<blockquote><b>First, how did the idea for making a PC action RPG out of the Mage Knight franchise come about?</b>
<br>

<br>
Making an action RPG is something we always wanted to do, late last year we started getting our ideas together about what kind of game it would be and what was needed to make it happen. We approached the Wizkids guys about Mage Knight because the universe is absolutely perfect for this kind of game. Mage Knight has so many diverse factions, magic, technologies as well as some nice history and back-story we felt it was a perfect match for the game we wanted to make.
<br>
(<b>Translation</b>: Everyone is making money on those action games with stats and hawt chicks, so naturally we wanted a piece of that action. The only setting available was that Mage Knight crap, but you gotta start somewhere)
<br>

<br>
<b>What can you tell us about the storyline for the game?</b>
<br>

<br>
As it turned out, there was an epic event happening in the Mage Knight universe right about the time we started putting together our plans for the game. The guys at Wizkids offered up the opportunity to tie our game in with that storyline and it made for great material to wrap a game story around. The story goes that an ancient egg had been stolen by an evil cult bent on bringing about the end of the world. From the egg would hatch the Apocalypse Dragon and it would be the harbinger of doom for the land of Mage Knight.
<br>
(<b>Translation</b>: Our 12-year old customers won't be disappointed. The game is epic. Duh! It has some ancient thingy, an evil cult, the approaching end of the world, and all the other original ideas!)
<br>

<br>
<b>What sort of playable characters will be used in Mage Knight Apocalypse?</b>
<br>

<br>
We spent a lot of time deciding what type of characters we wanted for the game and what abilities we wanted them to have. Among the five characters there are definitely some traditional RPG characteristics, we also merged a few archetypes into some new builds and with Mage Knight were able to bring a couple new things into the mix.
<br>
(<b>Translation</b>: We don't know yet. We thought about it, came up with nothing, took some vanilla characters, added bikinis and other cool stuff much appreciated by 12-year olds, and ... that's all we got for now. )</blockquote>Click on the link if you want to know about the combat, enemies, and the "unique gameplay element"

Why does every bad guy or group of bad guys want to bring about the end of the world? What the hell are they going to do then... float around in the cosmos? It doesn't make any sense. If you destroy the world/universe/whatever, there's nothing left to rule over. Idiots.

And what unimaginitive fuck named an entire universe "Mage Knight"? Oh, by the way, I'm currently creating my own RPG based in the world of "Warrior Monk". It's got "kickass" written all over it!

What makes this even more amusing is WizKids put Mage Knight 'on hiatus'.

Mostly because they fucked up their 2nd edition. 'Yeah, guys, you know all those collectible figs you spent shitloads of money on in first edition? Yeah, they aren't compatible with 2nd. Sorry, we guess you'll have to buy shitloads of 2nd to make up for it.'
...
'Hey, people aren't buying MK 2nd. What the hell do we do now?'
...
'I know, pretend nothing is wrong, and focus on our other shit. No one will notice'

The Dude: Oh, the usual. I bowl. Drive around. The occasional acid flashback
