Hi everyone,

We’re two guys from Melbourne that recently launched our VPN startup - Oeck. Our story started like a lot of other Aussie businesses. We didn’t love the current services that were available. We seriously hated switching regions all the time to stream shows, so we started our own VPN…

We’ve built our service with some pretty unique features that nobody else offers. Basically, we’ve automatically unblocked some of the most popular streaming services from various countries. For example: if you live in Sydney then you’d connect to our Sydney VPN region and you will still be able to unblock streaming services based in other countries ( such as US, UK, German and many more Netflix regions). In the past, you’d need to manually change between servers in different countries and disconnect to access local content like iView. Now, just connect and we’ve sorted the rest. There are lots of channels available

We genuinely care about the privacy and security of our users. We don’t use hard drives, ever. We don’t log our users data, we don’t use third party VPN servers. Basically, we manage your privacy in the same way that we want our own privacy handled (and we’re pretty particular with our requirements!). You can torrent safely, you can browse the internet with a lot more privacy, you can even bypass ISP speed traps if your ISP pulls stunts like that. We also have a very customisable blocker ( malware, ads, tracking and adult ) plus a completely custom blocker which you can make.

Hi Seigneur Locklear,

I would tend to agree with you if I also saw this. There are a lot of shady VPN companies out there. But I can assure you, since I helped build this VPN, we literally don't. We have laid out everything in our Privacy Policy and our FAQ which is written in a way everyone can understand. We tell you exactly what we monitor, don't log, etc. We went as far as running our VPN nodes without storage in order to ensure this is the case. We don't rent any hardware at all - not even the routers.

Regards,
Peter @ Oeck.

Aren't you in five eyes? Where are your servers located? Do you own your servers? Wireguard support?

EDIT: I see you have answers in your site and some on Reddit. HK based servers. NB.

I am already using Mullvad, what is a compelling reason for someone like me to switch?

Either way, best of luck with your venture.

According to the FAQ their servers aren't in HK, only their legal entity, but they avoid saying where the servers actually are

Under which jurisdiction is Oeck incorporated?

For the safety of our customers, Oeck is incorporated in Hong Kong ( currently ).
Oeck does not have any servers located in Hong Kong whatsoever.
Hong Kong has good privacy laws at the moment. However, we have no doubt that China will keep chipping away at the rights of Hong Kong citizens, so we expect a "data retention" law to be passed as soon as they can. However, it won't mean businesses need to comply on that same day. It is a very large task so we would expect 12 month period for businesses to comply with the new laws if/when they pass.

Having said that, we like to stay ahead so we are getting everything ready to relocate to Singapore. They have good privacy laws and we believe it will be a suitable country for Oeck. It is not a quick process, but this is what will be best for our users and for us.

Hi oneself,

No, although we are Australian our company is located offshore ( as Grauken explained above ).

We have VPN servers ( servers without SSD or Hard Drives ) located in Australia, USA, UK and the Netherlands. None of these servers log your activity - as outlined in our privacy policy. We do not have any servers located in Hong Kong at all.

We do have database servers located in Australia and the Netherlands, but the only information stored on these is your username, email, password ( hashed ) and if you have paid or not.

Yes, we own all of our own hardware ( including the routers ). We don't have Wireguard support at the moment but it is on the roadmap.

As far as why you should switch from Mulvad, that is a tricky question. Mullvad run a very, very good privacy VPN service. We have nothing but respect for Mullvad. It all depends on what you are looking for. Our service is on par with Mullvad in terms of privacy. However, when it comes to Geounblocking and features, we win. You can see our list of features at https://www.oeck.com/features/

Give it a go. You will see your admin panel and all of the available features there. However, for a quick rundown, please read below.

Streaming Automation - Connect to the VPN region nearest to your location and still access content from overseas streaming services. We take away the need for you to jump around VPN regions. You can also set regions for specific streaming services. For example you can set your Netflix region independently ( we have 30 Netflix regions at the moment ) - similar to how a smartDNS service works. This means no more searching for the "right" server to connect to. Just connect to the VPN and we take care of the rest.

Device Profiles - You can have up to 100. Each profile allows you to have unique settings for when you log in. For example, you can have one for your computer, another for your iPad, another for your partner, another for your child, etc.

Advanced Port Forwarding - You no longer need to keep track of IP addresses or configure your software to work with the VPN ports you are given. Just tell us which port to forward to and which device profile and it's done.

For example, if you set up a web server on your computer and enable port forwarding, regardless of which VPN server you ever connect to ( any server, any region ), to access your web server you would go to username-mydevice.oeck.me:portNumber - It stays the same :)

Also great for torrenting.

Ad, Malware, Social Network and Adult blocker - You can pick and choose which ( if any ) of the blockers you want enabled for each device profile. This allows you to turn on Adult blocking for children's devices but keep yours open. It is also very extensive and does a good job of blocking most ad, tracker and malware domains.

Custom filter - You can take the blockers even further by adding your own domain block-list on a per-device level. This gives you complete control over each and every device. This is very powerful and is easily built on.

Custom DNS - You can set your DNS on a per-device level. You can choose for the VPN to give you complete control to your DNS, or set your DNS and still allow the VPN to take control over certain domains in order for the channels and blocking to still work. This means you can even use your own DNS if you wanted to.

Automated server selection - When a user connects to a region they will always connect to a server with the most resources available. This completely removes the need to server-surf on the users end. They just connect to a region and they will be sure to jump on the server within that region that has the most resources available at that point in time.

- Hope this helps.

Regards,
Peter @ Oeck.

1. How shit is your service in Chyna? I use ExpressVPN and they're unreliable as hell (VyprVPN used to be better, they're also worthless now).

2. What relationship, if any, do you have with the staff at RPG Codex.net? If I use your service to watch hardcore hentai tentacle rape porn, will that information be shared with Crispy ?

3. Under what circumstances would you terminate service for a user?

Lots of ideal customers here - pirates, conspiracy connoisseurs, alt-politics enthusiasts, zoomers who want to have all the channels
It still doesn't look right to me, none of those people will use a VPN:
- pirates: they are either aware of the fact that they don't need one, or too lazy to go through the required steps to set it up (especially if it involves paying money: even $10/month is too much for a pirate);
- conspiracy connoisseurs and alt-politics enthusiasts: they will never trust a VPN company with that kind of website;
- zoomers who want to have all the channels: even setting up a new email account is problematic for them, handling a second account for another website would be a herculean task.

I think there's something behind this, we might need to investigate further. And you know what we need to do it in complete safety? A VPN.

Hi, everyone.

I'm one guy from Italy that recently joined a fresh and young VPN startup - Oeck. My story started like a lot of other Italian businesses. I didn't want to work. I seriously hated working, showing at the workplace on time, and not being able to play videogames and eat past all day long, so I tried to profit off someone else's business.

I've built nothing, but I will still try to get some money out of it.

I don't care about your privacy or security, but please trust the Oeck guy and give him money. Maybe he will think that I had something to do with it and will gift me Steam keys (I really want to play The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk, if someone is listening...).

Hi Ed123,

1. Shit hot according to our one and only tester in China. We are releasing our Obfuscation feature next week at some point and thus far it has been effective in evading the GFC.
2. We don't have a relationship with the RPGCodex.net staff. If you want to watch weird cartoons that's up to you. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
3. We have terms and conditions which we expect all users to abide by, but we can't see what you're doing at any time.

Hi Peter. Do you think Disco Elysium is an RPG?

Hi Latro,

Yes.

Out of curiosity I turned off my VPN and visited your site from behind the GCF. Half the site refused to load, and when I tried to download the installer it was going at about 4kb/s. Sad!

Disco Elysium is not an RPG
