Luckily players can't use "fish nigger" species as a player character. Thus the game might have some potential.

The outer worlds had that potential, when they tried to describe behavior of brainwashed free market individuals who were killing themselves by doing absurd things because of capitalistic free market society. They kinda toned it down in later missions. I'd appreciate the charm of mentally damaged people who are trying to starve to death because society told them "they have to spend money to make money". The society that was rescued my main character, and totally psychopath deranged scientist. (Society being rescued by criminals against society's own will is funny. Society is trying to fight back because society wants to commit suicide. And these criminals are too dumb to understand that. If only propaganda worked better, if only they were working as part of society, of only they were re-educated.)

But well they were afraid of theirs own greatness.

A few minutes ago, Xboxygen (one of the main French video game sites) mistakenly published its review of Avowed. While the page was inaccessible to ordinary mortals, some excerpts were visible on Google. This was shared on a French forum and they deleted the page but some people were able to see some parts, including the conclusion (with screenshots for proof): https://www.jeuxvideo.com/forums/42-36-75428508-1-0-1-0-fuite-partielle-d-une-review-d-avowed.htm
Overall from what was visible:
-The tester found the game beautiful with breathtaking landscapes and loved the artistic direction
-Length : "dozens of hours"
-The combats are surprisingly the best aspect of the game
-Stable performance on Xbox and almost no bugs (only a few visual bugs on Series S)
-True choices and consequences "à la New Vegas"
-Main negative point: the world lacks life and interactivity
Conclusion: A very good RPG while being very classic without anything revolutionary

Too good to be true.

I know this is a Fedora Master trademark, but who asked for Avowed?

Throughout the 2010s, the idea of Obsidian fulfilling their dream of "making their own Skyrim" excited a lot of people - including on the Codex, as you can see some from some of the positive ratings on the original post of this thread.

It ended up taking them a really long time to finish it, and in the meantime people lost interest in the idea for a variety of reasons.

And now, not-Obsidian have made their not-Skyrim in a not-hetero friendly way. I can't imagine why the hype died along the way

I already had my sabre drawn all this time and the few leaks already made me eager to see all the reviews coming tomorrow. I didn't pay for the early access and there are few other things to play meanwhile but these did make me question my decision a few times. This and that Dark Messiah of Might and Magic developer speaking positively of it.

I'm surprised with how few 'dexers acknowledge this, even amongst those that aren't fanboys of the game.
It wouldn't have worked, the company would have gone bankrupt before finishing the second part or there would have been a major shift in story development, leading to tonal and plotwise inconsistency (like say Mass Effect 1 to 2), that is how this usually plays out, better try to put it all in one game instead of parceling it out
Larian would have been able to release a shortened BG3 considerably earlier, and it would still have been a full CRPG offered at full price, raking in a vast amount of money that would have funded work on the sequel, which wouldn't have required more than two years extra relative to the actual BG3 timeline.

Perhaps we'll know tomorrow whether Avowed has any Musas and Hans Capons hiding in it.
That's just the baseline. It wouldn't be a Obsidian game without ugly characters and gay stuff.
I'm more interested in the amount of game breaking bugs, janky gameplay, unfinished quests, bad performance and such.

You don't think Avowed is gonna have janky gameplay?
Looks pretty good to me. At least they stuck with TES-style first person/third person combat and it isn't a fucking Souls clone. For anyone that hasn't kept up with Skyrim modding over the last 3-4 years this is what they're doing now. There's now more modlists that do this shit than there are traditional TES combat.

OK, maybe not the part about janky gameplay, although I think Tyrr is referring to a heavier level of jank than this game will have.

My point is I don't think this will be a "broken game" in any way - Obsidian isn't that sort of company anymore.

And it looks so awful, jungle biomass in northern environments, gameplay made of bits and pieces from souls games and shitty animations aren't improving the game.

Here's some more if you want to vomit. Won't be at all surprised if Bethesda themselves goes this route since the modding community is hellbent on turning TES into shitty Sekiro/nuAssassin's Creed/Dark Souls.
