<a href=http://int.games.1c.ru/>1C Company</a> had annouced back in March that Battle Lord, currently in development by ex-Space Rangers developers who formed <a href=http://www.katauri.com/>Katauri Interactive</a>, would be renamed to <a href=http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=41759>King's Bounty: The Legend</a>. Yesterday, Strategy Informer <a href=http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=42368&mode=thread&order=0>nabbed some screenshots and a trailer</a> of the game. For those who hadn't been following up on the game, here are the highlights:<blockquote>Features:
<br>
<br>
* Classic real-time (adventure) meets turn-based (battles) gameplay
<br>
* Rich fantasy setting, storyline with a lot of twists and an unexpected ending
<br>
* Three types of characters to choose from – Warrior, Paladin and Mage. Each of them with unique characteristics and abilities
<br>
* Huge game world with dozens locations and battlefields – both on the surface and in the dungeons
<br>
* The game world isn't static - enemies don't just sit and wait for the hero to arrive, they pursue their own aims and try to get into the player's way
<br>
<br>
The current release date is scheduled for Q4 2007.</blockquote>If it's anything like <a href=http://www.rpgcodex.com/gamedetails.php?id=350>Space Rangers 2</a>, I'm in.

Could this game look any more like HOMM V ? Not necessarily a bad thing.
I'm a bit dubious about the real-time part.

I'm so happy about this. I thought Battle Lord would just feature some lame mini-missions and just the reason-to-walk-around-and-collect-artifacts-story.

I am a sucker for real dramatic missions and turning points in a story.

The last HOMM lacked these, even if the whole campaign made some sort of sense (opposed to former installments of the series).

Remember: A story is more than the accumulation or the branching of missions.

Looks damned interesting. My main concern is the battle system. Looks a lot like HOMM, and it has a pretty shallow and uninteresting combat system. Still, a simplified TBed combat system can still work if all the other elements support it well, so we'll see. Definitely one of my most anticipated titles (reminds me that there are, actually, some Russian games worth looking into). I like to see it is already in English (at least some parts).

Um, isn't that the latest HoMM? I don't really follow the series but I've played the demo of the latest one and those screenshots look exactly like what I remember of it.

Really now, does this look the least like this?

No, but only because the second one is just a Forbidden page. :P

Primary differences between KB and HOMM

In KB you had a single army and there was no castle building.
