[ Game -> Patch ]

According to the website of Nathan Mates (Battlezone 2 programmer) - the latest beta patch for Battlezone 2 is out.

Given that patch 1.3 has been in development since September/October 2001, that makes it almost 4 and a half years in development.

Possibly snail-pace development, but keep in mind that the effort is mainly attributable to only two programmers from the original team (Ken Miller,
Nathan Mates).
Now that's what you call dedication. Or obsession. Or something.

The full feature list of the final 1.3 patch will include:

Much greater MOD (game modification) support, allowing up to 26
total races to be active at once.

Over 50 additional Instant Action & Multiplayer maps by several
mappakers within the BZ2 community, and tweaks to some existing maps
to reduce bugs. As of 1.3PB2, there are 16 classic and additional IA
maps, 98 classic and additional MP maps installed.

Bots in DM, and some additional DM gameplay modes.

Enhancements to many parts of the game, including AI, craft
handling, etc.

Check out the rest of the features and bug fixes here.

Grab the patch from here or possibly from this bzuniverse forum.

Many thanks to that sly old dog, Saint Proverbius for the heads-up.

Judging from the feature list, this patch is mainly targeted to the mod community, right? I can't be bothered to reinstall the game and download the patch if there aren't new missions and schtuff.

From what I understand there are improvements to the engine, AI, gfx etc. Plus 50 new maps. Well, 50 is the aim; I am unsure how many new ones are in the beta patch other than that there are some.

What was this game already? Some mix of strategy and FPS, right?
Yep.
It is essentially an RTS, but with the ability to play first person. And stuff.

Well, I figured that you'd probably have played UA, and that you'd therefore be able to figure out what BZ2 is like when told that it is fairly reminiscent of UA. :aiee:

I played BZ2 a while ago and thought it was fairly boring D: Never even heard of UA though.
