Well after not touching the game for 10 days I have decided to start a new character and seriously reintegrate myself into Codexia (my old one had too much INT from fish and wasted LP on useless skills). Also, my inner tranny won this battle so I chose a female character. The problem, however, is that a lot of the things that made me quit the first time are coming back and I seek advice from the veterans here.

1. The extended client doesn't work for me. I have an AMD 64-bit CPU, but the amd64 version doesn't start at all. The i586 one starts up and asks for username/password, but my connection always gets refused, even though the server is up. Any tips or workarounds?

2. What's the optimal Melee level to start hunting boars at and winning? What about bears? (I don't want to waste LP on archery) The stone axe counts as a weapon, right?

3. Is there a need for a smith now, or is it still a useless waste of stats and LP?

4. I'm going full Change for grinding purposes. That's good, right?

1) Can't give any advice, unfortunately.

2) Went archery here, and it works brilliantly for LP grinding as you can just kill shit from you boat. You can also build bear traps and melee, but that takes considerably more work. I'm sure someone with melee experience can give ya better advice.

3) Still looking for a mine. We were close to finding copper earlier, but caves are a bitch to go prospecting in.

4) Max out peaceful and get the change for free with it.

1. There is another client out there. Try that one. Search on the forum. I think you have to compile it yourself though.

2. Level 1 boars can be done with 10. Bears are about 10 times stronger. You need great equipment a fuckton of melee and stats to hunt level 10 animals. We also have too many hunters. Yes the axe is a weapon also used for butchery so even archers need it.

3. Probably there is a need for a smith as well as full industry since people are serious about getting a mine. We do have a few people skilling it though. Mining will be probably as tedious as silk and farming.

4. That and peaceful.

I can not, for the life of me, beat this level 1 boar with my 11 melee skill. I even got back up, waited for my SHP to grow back up while the boar was still hanging around and started again, but he still beat me 4 times in a row.

Um, yeah, we also recommend having 10 unarmed for the dodge. That way the boar doesn't whack you in the shins as much. I'm a farmer with only 10 unarmed/ 10 melee and can beat boars without a scratch. Some would suggest foregoing unarmed and packing a shield instead since that drains less stamina [quality does not matter].

btw, how the heck is everyone playing without lag? The last 2 days I've tried logging on it's like playing Halo on a C64 (hyperbole yes).

get a shield and switch combat maneuvers to shield.
or leave it at dodge, throw away your weapon and pump unarmed skill only.

pretty much.
you can read what each does on the wiki. for hunting, sticking to the damage avoiding maneuver that best fits your skill is the best choice. that means shield for melee, and dodge for unarmed.

Am I still the only smith we have?

Probably.

Not much demand for one, at the moment, so not many will go for that profession.
