I lack the wit to put something hilarious here

Very random guess - new Terminator game? T4 is being made, Bethesda used to work on Terminator games and seem to be making boatloads of money with F3 and Splash Damage makes FPS games.

A T4 game is already being developed by GRIN, so it must be something else.

I know they weren't mentioned in the article, but the thought of the inevitable Fallout 4, 5, and 6 (all that money spent has to make a return somewhere) is pretty nasty. I think even if it were the original developers still working on them, the concept is going to wear out around 4 or 5. Time to try something else, maybe.

They still have The Elder Scrolls series to milk and, I guess, the Star Trek license.

I think Bethsoft next game will TES:V, not Fallout 4.

It's probably something to do with Bethesda's plans to release their Great War simulation where you fight the Chinese on the Alaskan front.
