A new review of Boiling Point - with the v1.1 patch applied - is up on GameSpot, deciding that it is an ambitious but flawed game and awarding it 7.0 out of 10:

Boiling Point does have more than its fair share of flaws, but at the same time it is also uniquely appealing (and nearly impossible to stop playing) because of the gameworld's incredible openness. Being freed from the level-by-level design of the standard shooter is a treat all on its own. As the GTA series has proven, there's something extremely addictive about being released into a living and breathing world where you go out and explore to find your adventures.

I think most people will agree with their description of the game as "for all intents and purposes a beta, even with the patch". It'd be a shame if the game doesn't get the patching it so obviously needs to complete it. Maybe next time Atari will pull their head out of their collective ass and let someone finish a potentially good game, instead of squandering opportunities with premature releases.

Managing inventory is far too finicky, thanks to a system that forces you to
confirm every transfer of equipment. You even have to OK the individual number
of bullets being moved. This makes it impossible to loot corpses for ammo in a
firefight, as the extra steps usually occupy just enough time for you to take a
bullet in the head.

WRONG - you confirm the number of bullets you want in one step and it assumes you want all of them, so a single click is all thats required... i'm not sure of another way to do it except have something like a hold shift and click to take all option.

Also, and most importantly if you're in a gunfight you can simply press hotkeys (F1 - F4) to instantly loot individual items or a "take all" hotkey. There is no need to even enter your inventory... anyone who's played the game for 10 mins knows this!

The map system features just a generic X to denote all mission locations,
leaving you no idea whether the objective is up or down from your current
position.

Again, WRONG - the compass has a small arrow that indicates whether or not the objective is up or down a level.

While roadside stands and gas stations are represented by icons, key
locales in town, such as the arms dealer's shop and the motel, are missing in
action.

Well you can select the relevant npc in your "known npc's" tab and a marker will appear on your compass - it's not overly taxing

what a loser! he clearly lacks the necessary thought patterns to understand it's not there just for reality.. there are gameplay implications, it's not there just to annoy the gamer!

poor review and barely mentioned any of the more important elements

Now how are people like myself going to decide to buy this game (or not) with these crappy reviews ?

The game looks interesting to me but I would like some objective views about the game and especially whether it's incomplete state breaks it or not, before I spend my money on it.

Objective ? That's my second name.
Well, I bought it right when it came out (actually, I first got it on bittorrent, then I bought it). All the bugs and missing features are (mostly) true. So I played only a few hours, still enjoying it a lot. First patch solved quite a few things, but since they are working on a second patch (http://www.deep-shadows.com/en/index.php), I decided to wait before going in again. But it will be great when I do, the feeling of liberty is just too cool.

Intreresting to see they made so many blatant errors when reviewing the game. How about you write a good review of the game for us?
