Glyphen - A new game with Runic Magic in development!
Thanks to a topic from a good person, Koshkamail had a chance to get acquainted with a new game under development Glyphen. The game is being developed by a small indie studio Toccgames from France. The guys live in France and are developing video games. At one time, let me remind you, Arkane Studios started developing Arx Fatalis in the same way - a small team in a cramped studio!

You can get to know the project and the developers more closely in Discord https://discord.gg/2a8dXrjRR7
Together with my dear Lorenza, we received a sample build from the developer. The gameplay of course requires a lot of work, but it fully demonstrates the course of thought of the developers about runic magic. I really liked the development of the idea with the study of magic: the player must first create a spell, use it, and only then the effect is placed in the spell book, runes and their effects are studied. For example, to solve a puzzle, you need to put a jug on a pressure plate, and it drops by half. It is necessary to pour water into a jug with a spell to solve the quest.Glyphen takes place in an medieval-fantasy world where the unnatural storm isolating a mysterious island from the world suddenly dissipates.
The King of Longillard, reigning over the closest shore sends an expedition to explore. You are a scholar sent with the expedition to assist them in exploring and understanding the island and the ruins that it hides.
Recently, an infinite storm on the sea, surprisingly disappeared. The king of Longillard, your homeland, sent you in an expedition to study this brand new land part of the new territory of Longillard.
You can also join the project and try a test build, you need to talk to the developer in Discord. Very nice and responsive guys! Development is carried out on Unreal Engine 5, and this will require modern systems. We hope that the guys will succeed, I was very glad to get acquainted with the project and share it with you!
Of course, this is just the beginning of a good project, so I want to publicly wish the developer good luck, patience and success to bring the work to an end!
Thanks for your attention!
As promised @everyone , here's a big update on Glyphen's future:
Many publishers think the concept is great, but I think they're put off by the project's price tag and the team's lack of experience.
- Gamescom was super cool (and super expensive
) but unfortunately we got nothing promising in terms of an editor for Glyphen.
We'll keep you informed as soon as the release machine gets going, but it should arrive in the 2nd half of September. Take care everyone.I'll leave you with Glyphen's new menu:
- Our aim now is to convince them with an interesting community and wishlist numbers. So we're going to release the current version of Glyphen on Steam as a prologue, and create a Steam page for the game.
- So we're going to need your help in the coming weeks, as we resume communication about the project via social networks (Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Youtube).
- From a more team member point of view, with the lack of resources, we'll have to look at alternative solutions (I mean find a job), and support Glyphen in our spare time. So I'm probably not going to stream any more, unless the situation evolves for the better.
