Harrowed World: Portents In Red - yet another "modern gothic vampire RPG", currently in pre-alpha

So, yeah, this is another Bloodlines clone. The selling points seem pretty standard by this point, particularly the multiple choice immersive sim elements. I did notice that they're pretty non-specific about the actual story, considering the pre-alpha stage. There's no mention of different playable lineages, but who knows?

I checked out the website too, because it has one. It's part of a series called "Harrowed World" that the dev has been working on since 2013. To be fair, the urban fantasy genre has been around for decades and this is pretty standard faire for that genre. They've already released one game that's still receiving updates, a visual novel.

This is the second Bloodlines clone in development that I've found this week. I wonder how many more will show up this year?

Looked screenshots. Zero clue about how the gameplay will be. But evne if is a poor man asset flip. Just by not forcing me to play as "Phyre", I already wishlisted it and will wait till more info comes.

Yeah, the “screenshots” are completely uninformative. I have no idea why they thought that was a good idea. Nightborn’s screenshots look way better.

However, there is a tie-in visual novel:

The first chapter is free, with paid chapters being developed as DLC. Odd that they would announce 3 games in the series before any of them are actually finished.

It seems to be horror-oriented, instead of sexy Ricean vampires.

It usually happens when devs run out of money and/or get burned out with the main project and try to get some quick buck/distract themselves with a smaller project.
Never a good thing.

I played thru the released story. It’s pretty short and doesn’t really do much besides some exposition.

The vampires are divided into “legacies” descended from “revenants” who became vampires without being turned by another vampire. The revenants aren’t related to one another but became vampires independently across history.

There’s a vampire version of Christianity that venerates Judas as their messiah.

Vampires are inhabited by “The Presence”, an eldritch force that grants immortality in exchange for human blood.

A vampire we interact with is apparently able to pass as human and operate in the daylight.
