<strong>[ Game -> Update ]</strong>

<p><a href="http://www.hpssims.com/" target="_self" title="HPS Simulations">HPS Simulations</a> has announced the next in John Tiller&rsquo;s Panzer Campaigns series, <strong>Stalingrad &lsquo;42. </strong>According to <a title="StrategyZoneOnline " target="_blank" href="http://www.strategyzoneonline.com">StrategyZoneOnline </a>much like other HPS games the emphasis will be on wargaming accuracy rather than graphics whoredom:
</p><blockquote><p><em>The game will include 42 scenarios covering three periods of the famous
Eastern Front campaign. There are ten individual scenarios covering the
early fighting in July and August.
</em></p></blockquote><blockquote><p><em>Stalingrad &lsquo;42 will ship with an <span class="caps">OOB</span>
and Scenario editor allowing players to customize the game. Multiplayer
options include play against the computer AI, Play by e-mail (PBEM), <span class="caps">LAN </span>and Internet "live" play, and two player hotseat.</em></p></blockquote><p><a href="http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/" target="_self" title="StrategyZone >StrategyZone Online</a>. As per other HPS games, the emphasis is on wargaming intricacies rather than graphics whoredom:</p><blockquote><p><em>The game will include 42 scenarios covering three periods of the famous

out of 10 wotsits. It should be obvious this sort of game is very much
about grognard-appeal and stats n shit, but despite this Mr Informer
still seems rather offended by the interface and graphics:</p>
<blockquote>
<p><em><span class="normal">Take for example, the button on the tool bar that
you use to show your units. This button is represented by a box with a
plus symbol over it. What the hell were these people thinking? Would it
have killed them to refine the interface and put decent graphics on
these things?</span> </em>
</p>
</blockquote>
<p>To get an idea about the presentation level, here is a screenie of a tank battle:</p><p> </p><p><img width="200" vspace="20" hspace="60" height="145" border="0" align="middle" src="http://images.strategyinformer.com/screenshot2/00140052.jpg" alt="Oooh purty" title="Oooh purty" /> </p><p>This image was accompanied by the rather fuckwittish comment "my squares are better than your squares". Twits. </p><p>Read the rest of the review <a title="here" target="_self" href="http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/starandthecrescent/review.html">here</a>.

When I saw that first screenshot there, first thing I thought was 'holy shit, that looks cool'.

I'm happy not to of become a mainstream gamer.

Also, when did StrategyInformer start doing strategy games again? I thought they were all interested in King Kong and Half-Life 2 and whatever the fuck.

Star and the Crescent caught my eye earlier because Israeli/Egyptian tank battles are like a natural aphrodisiac to sad little people like me. But the 1956-2009 part is kind of odd. Why near-future battles with one of the few nations that Israel is actually at peace with? Why not Iran or Syria? It would be much more satisfying to drive on Damascus or something like that.

I was just going to submit an article about why there are no "Booth Dudes" at E3. It would have blown the motherfucking lid off of that cover-up. Guess you're not interested though...

Shrapnel is having a sale on a bunch of their wargames, including The Star & The Crescent, until March 12th. They're knocking off 15-25%, but the games are still a little pricey. Here are the details.
