There's been a lot of speculation about Metroid Prime getting a remaster/remake; some theorize it may even be out this year. When? This November.

Here's some of the more interesting information, quoted for posterity:

I'll quote the first few paragraphs from this article, which confirms some speculation the previous one has:

Whispers of a Metroid Prime remaster for Switch have been circulating for quite some time, but a new report has claimed Nintendo is finally almost ready to share the fruits of its labour, and will be releasing the long-rumoured game at the end of this year.

That's according to the persistently leaky Jeff Grubb, who shared the news on Giant Bomb's Game Mess Mornings show, saying he'd been told "pretty definitively" that an updated version of Metroid Prime 1 - what he referred to as Metroid Prime Remastered - was set to be one of Nintendo's "big holiday games" for 2022.

"In the past, this is something I'd heard was in the works," Grubb explained, "they have things happening with that game. Now I’ve been told that their plans are to release that game this holiday - I think almost certainly to line up with the 20th anniversary in November."

I know that some wild theories aren't much to go on, but this could very well actually be a *thing*. Discuss!

MP1 needs Samus's ship as fast travel between Overworld/Drifts/Mines, an indicator on what items you've found, and Aqua Drone to not be missable. Those alone would correct all its flaws.

It's been damn near 20 years since I played it last but I remember that game being about as close to perfect as a game can get. I don't remember traversal ever being a chore.

This might be my most hyped remaster ever because it's been so long since I last played it's going to feel like exeriencing it for the first time ever again. That game was mindblowing back then.

mmm no the belief is that Ninty is remastering all 3 Metroid Prime games and releasing each one sequentially up to the release of MP4, presumably to build hype for it. Not a half bad strategy. Unfortunately it sounds like MP2 and MP3 wont be getting the same type of prestigious remastering that the original is getting. Those are supposedly getting lazier updates.

Either way I'm looking forward to them. I only got to play part of MP2 and it seemed pretty damn good. I never got a chance to play 3 (aka the redheaded stepchild) because the Wii was a fucking joke and I never wanted to own it.

If they're going to update the controls they should see about alternating the difficulty a bit to compensate. The original game was designed for its lock-on system, and quite naturally the difficulty was centered around that. Being able to constantly move and shoot might alter some fights, and even some boss fights.

Metroid prime 1 and 2 were both very cool (even if 2 was pretty derivative). 3 was a bit too gimmicky. They already had a remaster for the wii though (but it came with some graphical downgrades iirc), so I don't quite get the point of another one.

Iirc you could move around pretty fast as it was, not sure the game really needs fast travel. Wouldn't hurt of course.

They basically did this in the Wii trilogy release. They made 1 and 2 have more/harder enemies to compensate for the Wii controls.

With shitty Switch controls, the remaster is going to suck compared to the modded keyboard & mouse PC controls. Also that the PC version already has HD textures.

I remember being blown away when I was younger and revisiting it a few years back it still is a really great game.

I actually prefer the Wii versions and using a Wiimote bluetoothed to my PC. Using keyboard+mouse makes them too easy.

MP is all killer, no filler. I think it's near perfect. Retro wielded Nintendo's approach to game design better than Nintendo. It felt classic and cutting edge at the same time. I don't expect more than a cursory attempt at rejiggering it though.

But in all seriousness, that's about the only major blemish the game has. I still prefer Super Metroid, mind you.
Touche. I hardly remember that part, so I probably didn't feel it to be too time consuming or tedious at the time. Maybe it was padding but it didn't feel like it to me. In light of how a lot of action/action-adventure games are made now, to fulfill some notion of dollar-per-hour value, MP felt like it had a tight, satisfying arc while feeling grand in scope at the same time. Super is Super, it exists on its own plane of inclined reality.

To be fair, most of the them were just there waiting for you to reach that part(since you were unable to go there before because you didn't have the right weapon/skill). Only a few of them were required more than "just reach this location you couldn't before". But they could just skip all that and require you to wear the Phazon Suit to reach Meta Ridley and Metroid Prime.

It's a nice way to cap off the adventure, by visiting every level in Samus adventure and seeing just how far you "evolved"

MP2 is my favorite, but yes, the more people playing MP 1 +2 the better

Also, they smartly connected the hubs to make backtracking/scavenger hunt fun

Never finishing MP2 is one of my greatest gaming regrats. A mistake I fully intend to rectify when the time comes. I don't care so much about the 3rd one. Like somebody in here said earlier it looked too gimmicky and just sort of meh.

It's mainly a problem during the artifact hunt and when trying to find that last damn upgrade. It would be a strict upgrade that wouldn't take much to implement and fit in the lore (unlike Prime 2, where Samus's ship is damaged most of the game).

Yeah, I think it's a decent excuse to have you revisit all the levels fully powered up and also a good way to encourage a final powerup hunt. Iirc the game does give some pretty blatant hints about where the artifacts are, but the hints don't all appear at the start, which might force you to do multiple backtracks. That might be nice to avoid I guess.

The artifact hunts in the Prime games were a non-issue for me because I always want to get 100% of the items, anyway.
The first game is the best, but it's only a slow decline. The other two games a still worth playing.

I don't know if it's GC exclusive, but by the time I was able to reach the Artifact Temple, only 3 of the Chozo Totems didn't give me any hint.
Iirc the hints shown depend on what artifacts you've already found? So if you've done a real bad job of finding any before it becomes the main objective, you will need multiple runs?

I only played the GC version.

iirc I had only killed the first boss(got the ball relic). But I may have also killed that alien plant boss too. What I do know is that I had not explored any other place so far.
