Neon Chrome is a ruthless top-down cyberpunk shooter with rogue-like elements. The game takes place inside an arcology – a massive sci-fi mega structure.
Blast your way through walls with guns and cybernetic abilities and try alternate approaches with different roles like the Assassin, Corporate Soldier or the Cyber Psycho. Upgrade your character stats, discover new cybernetic enhancements and build up strength to finally face the Overseer. Every death is a new beginning – the path to defeating the Overseer is never the same.
*It runs as smooth as shit from a duck's ass on my computer (i7 920 + 960)
*Gameplay is great, it's very fast, addictive and very low on BS, really challenging too, it basically feels like a "Good 90s Game™
*NC is a "semi-roguelite", you can't QS but the game auto-saves when you defeat a boss, devs are considering a Permadeath mode
*Enemies don't scale with your stats
*If your agent buys the farm you keep all credits and you can choose one of 3 new random Assets after which you can enhance him/her before you retry the chapter, the chapter will be regenerated but enemy types, theme and boss remain the same, the stat increases you buy are permanent but abilities are temporary as they're tied to that agent only. During gameplay you discoverAbilities and Enhancements (set number/ chapter), weapons and temporary effects like penetrating shots, you can replay the chapters you've beaten
*There are different classes (Assassin, Hacker, ...)
*There are stealth mechanics
*You carry one main weapon, you have one Special Ability and you have a melee attack
*The hacker has a robot companion and he can use his haxor skills to open certain containers and door
*Fallen enemies drop loot and there are loot containers, fortunately these containers are clearly marked so you don't have to destroy all objects in every room
*Movement is fast and the controls are precise, weapons feel powerful, if you've played Crimsonland you will feel right at home, you can't roll (maybe Roll is an ability I have yet to unlock) so Witcher fans might be disappointed.
*Levels are randomly generated but so far they never felt lolrandom, most parts of the maps are destructible, I've encountered some traps
*Health does not regenerate and you won't find many medkits and medbays, the Techie class has a regenerating shield
*There is a local co-op mode
*I like the Neo 80s / cyberpunk aesthetic, the visuals sometimes remind me a little of the old Expendable game, NC is a much better game though
*The graphics are decent, they're sharp and very readable unless you use that absurd blurring filter (see below)
*Sound design and music are great
The game has an options menu
Keys are fully rebindable
Graphics are very blurry with Glaucoma filtering aka "Post-processing filter" enabled:
Fortunately this effect can be disabled:
Thin walls, unlocked doors and most objects are destructible
Keys can be found lying around but there are also occasions where you have to find a "Keymaster". AFAIK corpses of slain humans don't vanish
