<a href=http://www.shadowgroundsgame.com>Shadow Ground</a> is a new action RPG (<a href=http://www.shadowgroundsgame.com/en/demo.html>click here for a demo - 383MB</a>) set on Ganimede in the year 2096. The game features upgradeable weapons, destructible environment, stunning visuals, epic story, and all kinda other crap that people are supposed to get excited about. However, the game is isometric (<a href=http://www.shadowgroundsgame.com/en/screenshots.html>click here for screenshots</a>), so if it comes with a semi-decent character system, it may be entertaining.

<blockquote>Shadowgrounds brings fresh air to the action genre with its unique perspective, explosive action sequences, innovative weapon upgrade system and a well-developed story. Addictive gameplay and audiovisual fireworks set the scene for a near-future tale of epic heights.
<br>
...
<br>
Use a devastating arsenal of high-tech weaponry to dispose of the alien threat. Each weapon has multiple upgrades that maximize the carnage. Examples include a pinpoint laser that cuts the aliens in half and and a railgun that fires wall-bouncing bullets - kill several aliens with only one shot!
<br>
...
<br>
Old-school attitude, modern effects (including the awesome flamethrower!)</blockquote>We need a volunteer who'd bravely download the game and tell us if it's any good.

The story page is filled with too many stupid names and acronyms. Is this supposed to sound cool?

I actualy played the whole game, i wont say how, but its not bad, its probally the best action rpg i have played in a while, i didnt find me forcing myself to play through the game, this is what restricted area should have been. I would suggest giving it a go considering nothing has been released for quite a while!

It fairly linear, but its kinda easy to get lost if you lose your sense of direction.

My bad. For some reasons, I've managed to misspell everything I could. The game is actually called Shadowgrounds, not Shadow Ground or Shadowground. Oh well... Happens every now and then.

What's the character system like?

There isn't one... it's all about how you upgrade your weapons. When you kill stuff you collect upgrade parts which can then be used to upgrade your weapons. It's a pure action game. Very much like Alien Breed meets Doom3 but it does what it does well. Weapon upgrades are far more interesting than your standard firing rate, clip size, more damage etc. and none of the weapons become useless... even the starting pistol is very usefull as it can be upgraded to have an alternate fire which slows the enemy down and it has infinite ammo.

The story is very cliched but it has a certain charm to it... like it's not trying to be anything other than what it is. There are lots of fairly pointless PDA's around to read, some are quite amusing like "oh shit, this alien is chewing my arm off!!"

The art style is fantastic

Enemies are pretty cool as well, there aren't too many of them but they have their own strengths/weaknesses.

It's the kind of game that i know is pretty average but i can't help but love it.

This game isn't even an action-RPG in the slightest. It is like an overhead Doom 3 except that the added "RPG" factor being that you pick up parts to upgrade your gun, but there are only three upgrades for each gun.

The music is good but the voiceacting wasn't. Sometimes it is difficult to hear the voices and the lines sounded like they were forced.

The game is also unoptimized and was pretty choppy, particularly when I got to the last boss in the demo. I was down to 5-10 frames a second.

And yeah, a pretty average game in my opinion. The enemy and level design I liked though.

The game is like the old Alien Breed.

I don't know where did you get that information that it is an RPG (whaterver type). It's only action, nothing more.

Yeah, I gave this one a whiirl about a month ago, on somebody's recommendation, and for a top down action game it was pretty tops. Very Alien Breed, and a bit like Take No Prisoners, but less crap and more linear.

I don't quite know where the "RPG" label came from, but it's certainly a fun little shooter.

And certainly not Shadowgrounds, which is what I read until halfway through the newspost. :(

Alien Breed (and its sequel) was a fucking excellent game on the Amiga. And multiplayer was a blast.

Might give this one a whirl.

I warn you, dear Shagnak this is not a "blob with arms and legs" game.
You will be very disappointed.

This isn't an action RPG at all, all you do is run around and shoot things. It's pretty fun, for that, though. At the one part where 50 of the buggers come running down the hall, I laughed with delight when I used that flamethrower on them.

What are those upgrade thingies all about? How do you use them?

Well, sorry to derail the circle-jerk over Shadowgrounds but has anyone played Shadow Vault? I saw the box in a Babbages and it looked like a direct copy of Fallout, down to the font used for the logo. It also said it was turn-based...

Anyway I looked up reviews and found the general stupidity and hatred show by gaming site reviewers upon being handed a turn-based PC game (omg lolz it sux), and I'd like to know from someone around here that actually gave the game a chance if its any good.

Unfortunately they had to take the shadows out at the last minute so now they just call it ground.

Haha

As for searching for Shadow Vault here... it's impossible. The sheer amount of the word "shadow" and "shadows" because of the shadows being removed from Oblivion makes it impossible.

By just typing Oblivion here you might find everything you need: why the third world war started or why a lot of humans are robotic retards that repeat PR excuses to produce shitgames.
