Coming from the Indie Pokemon thread I was wondering, has there ever been game with a decent community capable of delivering the Final Fantasy or FFT experience with online and multiplayer, but not being a kid's ripoff?

Considering that high level Final Fantasy characters deal more damage/healing than what they have in Max HP, I doubt it. I dont think, "who can cast ultima first?" would make for an engrossing competitive experience.

An FFT-like experience however could be interesting. Just put up a banlist of some of the more broken combos, and maybe something interesting could come out of it. But I dont think I have ever seen one.

Nobody said it'd have to be the game 1:1 out there, of course numbers and metagame would have to be tweaked, same as with TCGs.
