Courtesy of Joe Garrity of the Origin Museum, and to the hard work of both him and the team at the Wing Commander CIC, Ultima Aiera is pleased to present over 100 photos of some of the more rare and fascinating items that the Origin Museum has collected.

For the few Origin fans out there, I thought this was kind of neat. The Chinese Ultima collection certainly had some interesting packaging. There is also some Wing Commander and other Origin related pics. Enjoy!

You know, I always thought the overarching plot of Ultima's VII-IX were rather good if taken as an allegory of the fall of Origin Systems. During the development of Ultima VII, Origin was constantly menaced by Electronic Arts, and it shows in the game. It is clear the Guardian represents EA. The purchase of Origin was finalized midway through the development of Serpent Isle, a game where a cataclysm takes place halfway through. Ultima VIII, where the Avatar is thrust into Pagan and must be Machiavellian to survive, represents the struggle of Origin trying to perform it's old magic under the yoke of EA. Finally, the Avatar merges with the Guardian, which symbolizes the assimilation of Origin and all it's developers into the EA mindset. No wonder Richard Garriott has produced nothing but shit since then!

Sad thing is that EA weren't always shit. As a simmer I have a lot of fond memories of EA, they churned out more sims than Microprose in the 90's, most of them good.

Electronic Arts had a good selection of games in the 8-bit days before they became the Electronic Assimilator.

Wow! A Savage Empire T-shirt? That would go for as much as the game might if I would ever sell my copy.

Why did Garrity sell his Origin stuff? Tons of the stuff has been showing up on ebay for months and months. You ever get an answer from WTFDragon Infinitron?

Yeah, that t-shirt went for a lot of money! I can't find the listing now but if my fading memory holds it went for over a $1,000 USD!!

I spoke to the man years ago about his collection (~2016), he had financial problems then and I doubt they've improved since. :(
