Can't get into the siege tower. I know all you are supposed to do is walk into that drawbridge door, I can't remember if you need an item or not its a year or two since I last played it. I recently reinstalled it on a new machine running xp with the "latest" patch

You need to supress all desire to enter it, but to do this, you have to realize how this might be an option first.

Go to the Lower Ward Marketplace. There will be a salesman with a young helper by his side. Its the salesman son, Lazlo. Talk to him and you'll get a chance to ask him why he's nervous, and he'll mention the Siege Tower. During the conversation, you'll come to consider the option that not wanting to get in could be precisely the way to get in.

Leave him and head towards the ramp near the Siege Tower. The exact location eludes me, but wandering about, you'll get a dialogue prompt. When you get in the right place you'll get a chance to supress all your desire, and you'll be teleported inside it.
