Decline PSA regarding Wikia images

Because apparently people haven't figured it out yet.

Hotlinking images from Wikia doesn't work anymore, it only results in a blank white square. Unfortunately, you can't just use the URL to upload pictures to Imgur instead, nor can you download them and upload them to Imgur from there - this is due to the WebP format that Wikia uses now.

There are two ways to get around this: (1) Find the picture you want to post somewhere else, or (2) use Internet Explorer to download the picture to your PC and upload it to Imgur from there - IE is too dumb and old to understand WebP and saves them as JPGs instead.

Alternatively, if you come across a post where someone hitlinked a Wikia image, you can just open the white square in a new tab to look at it, assuming you care enough.

Edit: Method number 3: Edit out everything after the .jpg or .png in the link. Example:

https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/p...st/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20200102175810

Turn that into this:

https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/plantsvszombies/images/6/63/PvZ2Logo-0.png

And it seems to hotlink just fine.

The worst part about this if you try to embed the image with all the trash that comes after .file_format it actually imbeds just fine - until the first refresh, that is
