Well, with the abandonware from SSI getting devoured for possible future gog release I thought I'd search here for a Questron thread (only obscure thread and a few others mention it).

Questron was one if the first c64 rpgs I bought. Order was Temple of Apshai/Upper Reaches of Apshai, Sword of Fargoal (vic-20), Questron, Ultima III .....

I rather like the game and those that were influenced by it (Legacy of the Ancients, Legends of Blacksilver). I really need to play the Original appleii Ultima 1. I had no idea outdoor combat was just like Questron.

In Order of the games I played this is the order of my like from best to worse:
1. Questron
2. Legacy of the Ancients
3. Legend of Blacksilver
4. Questron II

I ONLY played these on c64 joystick & keyboard. I tried Questron II DOS but meh. At least I could sit back with a joystick. That menu structure gameplay though. How many times did i press the button and only have it on pass or Kill self?

For a while you could download the plinko-like game from LOTA as a standalone but that link is long gone and I never got it to work.

I wanted to compare some short vids of Questron 2 first:

Yeah, I really wonder when these will hit gog/steam and how little effort will be put into the DOS versions. I don't expect much tbh. Maybe they will even put up obscure titles like realms of darkness but there is no way they'll cover every platform. Hell, GOG is lazy to put up manuals and extras of old games.

C64 versions are still the best. Only download disk images if it includes images of save disks, as you can only use an original disk to create a save disk. And good luck finding a working copy of Questron 1 for C64 in the wild. There are heaps of wrecked copies floating around.

Questron 1 i had issues with the dungeon disk. I was screenshotting all enemies bsck on my old computer then got sidetracked. Pretty sure i finished it. Note: with save states and gambling you can break the display with way too much gold & hp. You don't have to scum though to do that. That roulette is just damn golden most of the times. I think muskets are top weapon but I can't be sure. I think most towns can be destroyed if you take too long.

This blog confirms the fun in Roulette
