hey, long time reader first time poster. I noticed a couple of members are struggling to find rts games with tactics rather than the traditional micromanaging born of Warcraft. Well I've been playing Soldiers heroes of world war 2 as well as Faces of war. Both are good but lacked any popularity due to bad marketing, and a moderately difficult learning curve as well as sloppy publishers.

Currently I'm playing in the Men of War beta, which is a sequel to Soldiers, you can find more on it here http://www.digitalmindsoft.eu/

The engine really is amazing, and there are lot of breakthrough features, such as directly controlling every unit on foot or in any vehicle. Vehicles don't have Health Bars, they have real armor penetration values which are also dependent on slope. Meaning your best bet is to flank enemy tanks and shoot out the tracks and hopefully hit the engine causing a fire.

There's a great modding community, as well as down to earth developers, It's a great breath of fresh air for those of us who would like to see an actual difference in our rts's other than a change of scenery and 1 or 2 blandly unique features.

Soldiers: Heroes of World War 2 is a bad game. Hey I got a good idea lets put inventory micromanagement into an RTS game where your soldiers die quickly.

:? You pretty much don't ever have to touch soldier inventory in mp. and I personally like that they give each soldier an inventory, it gives each one possibility for individuality. Soldiers is a great game, maybe you should give it another shot?

That's why there's a PAUSE button KC - you can PAUSE and then MICROMANAGE.

Both games are AWESOEM! CoH can eat a dick.

Well, I figured someone would appreciate it.and that's good enough. kingcomrade disappoints me, for someone who plays Dwarf fortress you'd think they'd be a bit more open minded.

Looks damn fine, but I don't see any drastic improvements since SoWWII/FoW

Or am I misinformed?

Well, even if this will be just polishing (of gameplay and mechanics - not teh grafix) - I'm still buying it.

I liked CoH and Faces of War/Heroes of WW2

Both had their charms. I loved taking my soldiers in Heroes of WW2 under direct control and going on commando missions.

There are a lot of fine tuning and behind the scenes polishing. The Armor penetration system works better then ever. the gui is very user friendly this time around. New vehicles, as well as Japan as a playable nation. Deployable cover, and more. It's an all around better game.
