Plus, Steam requires an internet connection to run so if you don't have the internet it is pointless. Steam is a step backwards.

False.

As long as that doesn't mean you can prevent it and still use the service, I don't see how that makes it OK.

... Like I said, just wait for whomever owns Bloodlines to cave to GOG. If you've waited this long already, surely a few months or a year won't make a difference.

Maybe I wasn't clear:

Steam: Can we gather data about your machine specs?
User: No thank you.
Steam: Okay, that's cool. You can still use our product anyway.

You are NOT required to give out your pc specs to Valve to use Steam.
Clear?

Sure. Except that's limited to their hardware survey. The client is effectively spywhere and the only way you can opt out of that is by denying their ToS, which means you can't use the client.

And of course, there's still the bullshit anti-family policy.

Okay, I'll take the bait. Pretend you are enlightening me and tell me, in detail, how Steam asks as spyware. Please.

And I don't think I fall into the crowd of vehement deniers of truth, so I'll have to disagree with you, Occasionally Fatal.

Of course not. It doesn't report any info starting with your system specs back home

Obviously Valve asks you if they can gather info about your PC

They do. Once every year, Valve conducts a hardware survey. You can choose to take part, or you can choose not to take part. You have to fill it in and send it off. They don't take it from users automatically.

Valve also attaches how much time you play a game for to your gamer profile or something. I guess if you don't want a database at valve to know you played 18 hours straight of Sexy Beach you should go buy some real porn.

Oh, okay then. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Also, its looks like The Ticktockman has successfully scared skyway away from another argument.

So, when does he get his dumbfuck tag? Soon?

Lolwut? Wait for GOG to get Bloodlines?

No. Don't. GOG will, in all probability, never see Bloodlines.

Buy it off Steam.

And to correct one misconception. You do not absolutely need to be online to play your Steam games. Unfortunately though, you need to have the foresight to ask the program to go into Offline mode while you are still online.

Personally I have over 40 games on Steam, never had a problem with it.

Your ignore list.
Torrent the damn thing. Nobody that deserves will see the money anyway, so all these righteous pricks don't have anything to complain about piracy hurting the developer.
