I've noticed that many "gamers" who are like 16 to 20 or something say things like "OOOOGG! The Duke is finally coming". "I've waited so long". They probably heard about this game two or three years ago and have never played the original (or just a little bit to be part of the cool scene). I mean, how can you wait when you still can finish the old game...

Do you get me? Yes?

Ridiculous! At least I remember them screenshots, Quake 2-Engine based.

And yes, "Hail To The King baby" is not from the Duke! Ash will have a word with you!

:M

My grandfather is still waiting for the Duke. He got excited because they said now that he was finally coming. Everyday he's looking out the window, and he says to me, he says "Andyman, one day I'm gonna get you John Wayne's autograph." And I don't have heart to tell my grandpa that they're all talking about a video game character that appeared in a computer game where you could see tits. Fuck Duke Nukem. I hope Big the Cat falls on him.

But to answer your poll, some probably have played the games. Does it matter?

Yeah but that doesn't count if they didn't play when the games were originally released.

I really like the platformers I must say. Two of a very, very small number of platformers that I like.

Duke Nukum.
No. The original spelling was Duke Nukem. Got changed very briefly to Nukum when Apogee found out some European character had this name, then back to Nukem when they found out that said character's name wasn't copyrighted.

Second game was better.
Yes, but I still like the first one too.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
The platformers were awesome, played them when I was a kid. Loved all of Apogee's stuff back then.

And I remember a friend telling me back in '99 that DNF won't be released ever - because they've already been shoving the release date back for 2 years, should've come in '97.

Well, guess he was proven wrong.

I'm 20 and have played the original Duke Nukem games (this just means I played them at a very young age). I still remember hearing the announcement of Forever in a magazine. Think one of the screenshots had an old man.

I still have the CD with Duke Nukem 3D total conversions (porno paradise :D).. somewhere. Penthouse TC's FTW!

EDIT: Just saw the new Duke Nukem Forever trailer. Wow, lame. There is a fake fan-made trailer out there on YouTube, it's ten times better than this crap they released (mostly cause the fan trailer showed the best parts while the official trailer shows the blurry console-ported parts).

Moo?
I rented Duke Nukem 3D as a kid for the tits. Stayed for the roids.

Edit: Also, Duke Nukem:Time to Kill was pretty fun. Never played any of the others.

I remember days of playing shitty games on the schools 486 pieces of shit, when they upgraded to ZOMG PENTIUMS we would manage to sneak in games in I.T. classes.

I vaguely remember playing a bit of the Duke platformers back then. It has a flamethrower that doubled as a jetpack/jump boost I think. Duke3D however was played quite a bit, my frind was screwing about with modding audio for a while back then, if I try really hard I might be able to blow a synapse and remember the music program he was using. Cubic or something. It hurts to think back that far, I may just google for it later. Anyway, I still have the music files, time to play them for the lulz.

SUCK IT DOWN!!!!!

Your face, your ass, whats the difference?

Over there.
Duke is pure nostalgia for me. It was my first PC platformer back in the day when I spent evenings burning through BBSes and their time limits. Had about a dozen or so in the Atlanta area I logged into regularly, and gorged myself on Jazz Jackrabbit, Duke, Commander Keen, etc. Used to play the shit out of Chip's Challenge back then too. Ahh... memories.

no, that would be Halloween Harry.

You are right, although I do vaguely recall a Jump pack in 2.

I have fond memories of the duke. Duke nukem was one of the first games I ever played along with Commander keen. I still have that Pc gamer mag with duke on the cover saying "The Duke is Back!"

Used to love the old platformer games back in the day. I had to fast talk a shop clerk to let me buy Duke 3D since we didn't have pirat bays back then.

I'm tentatively excited to see DNF being finally released. It's likely going to be terribad, but there's a tiny chance it may be the same no-nonsense fun that Serious Sam brought us years ago. I guess we'll know in a few months.

Best part of DN3D for me was the mapping part. Build engine's mapper was immensely easy, fast and robust. I've made tons of maps and uploaded some of them to fan sites which eventually ended here and there among countless others. I remember buying an import pirate CD, in 98 I think, with the game and hundreds of user made maps in it, complete with fancy jewel case cover and print on the cd, and finding two of my own maps in there, much to my surprise. I've felt so damn

then.

I've made some damn crazy MP maps that ran like crap because I managed to fill the entire grid up to the maximum sector limit and because the engine had a poor culling scheme, it would slow down to a crawl when you turned towards sector-heavy areas at the other end of the map. That was when I first met the concept of optimisation and smart level design.

At the ages 4-6? (giving a buffer of 2 years post-release)

Don't think Duke Nukem Forever will be any better than the various Playstation and N64 spinoffs (3 of them, if memory serves).

Let them have their dreams of awesomeness that they've never bothered to experience in the early 90s and can't understand now.
