Animmal's shamanistic tactical RPG The Way of Wrath was supposed to participate in the Steam Autumn Game Festival last month, but was withdrawn at the last minute. Instead the game will take part in the Winter Festival scheduled for February, which is also when its long-planned Kickstarter campaign will launch, according to yesterday's announcement. Here's the enthusiastic announcement video and accompanying press release:

Tbilisi, Georgia -- November 9th, 2020 -- Independent developer Animmal today invites players to sign up for their new Kickstarter page for the upcoming narrative-driven turn-based RPG, The Way of Wrath, ahead of the crowdfunding campaign in Q1 2021. The Way of Wrath takes you on a harrowing journey through a shamanistic world full of mystery and danger that will make you fall in love with roleplaying games all over again.

Sign up today and be notified when the campaign goes live: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/animmal/the-way-of-wrath-rpg

Prior to the Kickstarter launch, Animmal will be hosting a range of community events, offering a chance to win exciting The Way of Wrath merchandise and the opportunity to get involved in important game design decisions. The developer has planned a number of streaming sessions, during which they will work with the community to design in-game assets, including easter eggs, characters, weapons and even a quest. The community will also be able to vote which Kickstarter stretch goals should become a priority. Known for active community engagement, Animmal also has a number of update videos and sneak peeks into the development lined up, as well as rewards throughout the whole Kickstarter campaign.

The Way of Wrath is our love letter to masterpieces like Baldur’s Gate, Zelda and Deus-Ex, and we want to challenge your creativity, reward experimentation and capture your imagination the way those games have over the years,” said Dato Kiknavelidze, Co-Founder of Animmal. “We’re extremely excited to launch the Kickstarter campaign for The Way of Wrath and offer loads of exclusive rewards for our backers in return. Sign up early so you don’t miss out!”

The Way of Wrath is a narrative-driven tactical RPG featuring turn-based, dynamic combat and a non-linear world where your decisions matter. Journey through a meticulously handcrafted landscape, carrying out quests and interacting with NPCs, each with their own interactive storylines influenced by the choices you make. Unrelenting environmental hazards, scarce supplies and vicious enemies are only a few of the adversities you will encounter as you work to rebuild a rundown fort and maintain the morale of the troops in the face of an oncoming enemy onslaught.

Keep up to date and follow The Way of Wrath on Twitter, Facebook and Discord.

Animmal plan to release another beta of The Way of Wrath later this month. This build will be focused on improving the game's combat system and will feature an arena mode. If you'd like to join in, signups are still open on the official website.

Wait what? Are devs from Georgia?
Anyway, I like the theme of game, but I tried demo and execution was very clanky - at that moment...

I'd like to challenge their creativity. Why not come up with a press release that does not mention baldur's gate, deus ex or even fallout? If I had a nickel for every love letter BG is getting lately I'd have a crashed nautiloid ship full of nickels.

It's actually also a love letter (among others) to Thief, Gothic, Planescape, System Shock, Morrowind, The First Law, Warlord Chronicles, Deadwood, The Heroes, Iceland, Bears, Owls, Homebrew Alcohol, That one broken-down tower in Birtvisi Canyon. But PR guys thought it was a bit too much love letters. I say there is no more romance left in marketing.

Oh yeah! I totally forgot about this one. I'm uh... wary of stretch goals and physical extras. Honestly, just make the core game solid and workable. Maybe a box & manual if need be. TBH... i've gone mostly digital these days.

Wow, this looks very ugly and uninteresting, the guy is talking like he's selling vegetables in the city market. If this is a love letter to older games imagine how a hate letter would be...

I'm very into cock and ball torture
I get Vaporware vibes, sadly.
I hope not, shamanistic turn based rpg sounds at least interesting in theory.

That doesn't matter how he talk, it's just personal skills and experience person have or lack of.

I didn't say that it matters that much, he just made a big impression on me by how he sounds (like a despaired vegetable seller). I've never hear any other serious indie dev talk like this. This is a new low.

Come on, man. Two people are working on this game, probably having a charismatic speaker wasn't exactly a priority for them. And it's still Hollywood-material when you compare it to Pierre's performance in the Knights of the Chalice 2 trailer:

I'm disappointed this trailer didn't have them pronouncing the game like before, 'The Way of Rot.' Nice moldy ring to it. Also, that kinda unfocused watercolour cartoony art style looks bad. Nevertheless, much like women there is more to games than looks! So there you have it boys, your target market, those who'd date a swamp donkey.

One of my favourite series of books.

Btw what is this? what is this about?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Warlord_Chronicles

Warlord Chronicles are a series of Arthurian books set in Dark Age Britain by Bernard Cornwell.

They blur the line between historical fiction and fantasy. Sort of a realistic take on the Arthurian legend. Lots of "magic" that can be explained away by coincidence. No knights in plate armour etc.

Some really well written characters and (as is standard for Cornwell) really well written battles and combat.

Very much our aim! But minus the certainty you have in historical fiction that in the end, all the magic is not real. With hope, it will create this immersion of looking at the world through the eyes of ancient humans. Where you don't know where the line between myth and reality is. And you find out over time through exploration, observation, and deduction.
