TOEE won't start

My copy just arrived and I installed patch 3, when I try to start the game, my cursor changes to indicate it is reading the CD and the screen goes black for a bit and nothing happens (no error messages)

And anyone mind giveing me links to any unoffical patchs while I am asking?

Some like it, some do not but I recommend the Co8 mods and patches. Some of them add new content of somewhat questionable quality so you might want to leave that out, especially if it's the first time you play.

You should seriously read their documentation before you do anything to check what changes, what you might want to install and leave on the side and of course how to install it. You should also know that some changes in the game mechanics are actually work arounds since they couldn't fix bugs without access to the source code. Personally I have to say the game works great for me that way.

Anyway even applying the official patches can cause troubles, for exemple I have to install patch 1 and then patch 2 to have the game work properly even if patch 2 contains the fixes from the first patch. If you do not want to use the Co8 pack, then I advise you to apply first patch 1, then patch 2 and then patch 3 and then check, just to be sure. If you want to use the Co8 pack, check their instructions but in a nutshell you need to first install patch 2 (or patch 1 and then 2, like me, it does not hurt anyway) and then the Co8 fixes (patch 3 is not needed, the pack already fixes the directx bug fixed by the last patch) and then use the loader to apply the mod.

I use the co8 patch and I can't get the game to run either. I know what the problem is, the game runs but Windows doesn't switch the window, and ToEE is one of those shitty games where Alt+Tab doesn't work (it will never transfer to ToEE, it just goes black). The only way I could get it to work was to use the Co8 front end to let me play in a window.

Oh, and the screen goes back to windows a bit after going black.

That's strange. Alt+Tab always works for me in both directions.

KC, could it be related to the screen refresh rate? If remember having trouble because I had it forced and the game just did not like it, I had to use the in-game option to have it work correctly.

How do I have my wizard learn spells from a scroll? The help doesn't seem to explain it..

Radial Menu -> Person Icon -> Copy Scroll -> succesful Spellcraft check -> PROFIT!!!

Save before you try, for some reason you can't try again if you fail (it says "Invalid action") - I think you're supposed to just wait some time, but I'm not sure.

how do I kick an NPC out of the party? I want to get the master to show me the ToEE and then kill him.

When I just attack him, his corpse stays in my party.
