They made changes and updates. It's 2.0. They also probably wanted to announce it with VF 6 for more hype, and it probably took them a minute to figure out rollback netcode. Not to sound like a SEGAcuck but SEGA is starting to really bring it with that sweet Yakuza money.

Holy SMOKES this is so, so good. Been playing the beta. The netcode is fantastic and every match has been smooth. It's super, super fun. I have made it to 6th kyu as El Blaze. I will be playing the heck out of this when it launches (school permitting).
EDIT: I have only played in 2 bursts, and one of them was mostly with my friend last night. I was kicking rear on the ranked matches for the most part. It's so intuitive (plus I am sure everyone is a scrub right now, minus the legacy players). I think I fought 1 legacy player so far and I got a couple rounds off him but he beat me both times (he's a Goh player)
But it's an absolute blast.
